News: Zack Martin retires

He literally was first team all pro in 2023…

Fans
The cracks were starting to show, but yeah, he was still one of the best in 2023. I believe it was an ankle injury that slowed down one of the best. He played through it before eventually having to have surgery in 2024.

We dog these players when most of them are playing through things that would put us in our recliners for a year. Both Martin and Tyron have become underappreciated simply because they tried to keep going when their bodies said enough. It will be interesting to see if Tyron also retires this year.

The Jones clowns all year kept on telling the fans Zach is fine, and that he will be here for years to come. Lol. Despite what we were seeing on the field. Nothing but lies from them. We could see he had declined alot. Then hurt. It happens to players eventually.

But to be quite honest I think he'd have to have played at a high level for a couple more years
This is the delicate part. He was definitely playing at a HOF level early in his career. A couple still really good years & the last 4 years have been rapid decline.

It's not the career his accolades say it was.

Tony
Lee
Dez

In process of wasting

Way late to this post and reply, but Ware did not waste his career. He still won a SB with the Broncos. As for the others you could call it a wasted career, but did Donovan Mcnabb waste his career? Did Dan Marino waste his career? Did Randy Moss waste his career? Did Adrian Peterson waste his career? Did Bruce Smith waste his career? Yes, a Super Bowl win is the overall goal, but soooo many players who played their hearts out and didn't win the Big One.

Now there are players who probably could be considered wasted on a team. (Mostly Lions players, ha) Barry Sanders, Calvin Johnson for example. But I wouldn't consider Witten, Ware, Tyron, and Martin necessarily a wasted career.

you keep playing this tune and no one believes it

but it is amusing so keep it up

On name recognition. His play slipped considerably in 2023. He was about NFL average starter. He shouldn't have made the Pro Bowl, let alone 1st Team All Pro
I will take their votes as people who actually watch all teams over you anyday

So many haters for a great player who is hanging it up to protect his health. This guy played his heart out for us. Was part of a OL that was ridiculous dominant at one time. Never complained and always did his best.

Do I think he is a first ballot HOF'er.... no. Do I think he has a chance to get in....Yes. His career was short by most standards for HOF recognition, but dude was a baller. I unfortunately don't think he will get in with the rules and logjam of players the committee has coming up, but there is a chance.

Anyone who has as many All Pros as Holding calls has to get some recognition.

Ok but if you dont notice how much he slipped last year, Im not listening to either one of you. You clearly werent paying attention.
dont use stats, define slippage and how it impacted vs the players he was facing, how schemes might have changed and how much talent he faced.

we ll wait.

He was still at or near top form in 2022. 2023 there was a very steep decline in his play. He went from All Pro caliber to average NFL starter

So basically you want a dissertation on his slippage in 2023. We ran pretty much the same scheme and played pretty much the same caliber off opponent. We struggled all year in 2023 to run the ball. Zack is the RG. Thats basically the engine of the running game

He will get in; as no player who has gotten six All Pros has been left out
he has SEVEN + 2 second team all Pros

Steele sucked most of the season and Biadasz was not a lot of help. BUT you blame Zach.
DUMB

His play began slipping in 2022, and slipped more in 2023. PFF ratings (if you trust them) reflect that. However, in 2023, Martin and Tyler Smith had the lowest blown block rates among full-time starting guards. That's why they were All-Pros.
