As much as we have applauded Will McClay in previous years he’s stunk it up in recent drafts too.

Just can’t miss in 1st and 2nd rounds and expect to build thru the draft.

Hitting consistently in the draft is more critical than ever in Cap era.

We are going to sign some big free agents. But after those one or two guys get signed it'll be back to the low-risk high-reward types that Stephen likes.

Even the players they have brought in haven't been very good.

Everybody remember Nolan Carroll? Cedric Thornton? Stephen Paea?

Yeah, if those are the recommendations I'm getting from my "football guys", I can see why the Joneses go on vacation instead!

Bingo!
How many FA's have they brought in that stayed with the team longer than a few years?
I can't recall any off the top of my head that made an impact and stayed. And I mean FA's during the FA period, not FA's added later, after the draft. Like Woods I believe.

Maybe Joe Thomas as depth, but he is a FA this year.
Not counting Cobb yet, he was on a 1 year deal, and again a FA.

Even though I like they don't go overboard with the big bucks, however, they go too far the other way, to the bottom of the barrel, which could be like 7th round draft pick FA's. Except a few like Cobb here and there.
But agree they wasted draft picks because Jerry / Jason should have fired the DC years ago.

Even year before draft with Van Esch injury concerns which we knew of his neck history is now very questionable. And Connor Williams hasn’t overly impressed either.

The saga continues.

Can’t just hit on an occasional 3rd or 4th round pick and maintain talent.

All it takes in Cap era is to miss on a few top draft picks and your sunk.

I was thinking the same thing. Its still the Stephen and Jerry off season show. Haven't heard a thing from MM since his opening presser. Seems he's just a new chef in Jerry's kitchen.

Why should you hear anything from him. Do you hear from other teams coaches. We hear from Jerry / Stephen because they are in charge of getting any contracts done.
So they are asked the questions from the media, not MM. And that is the only thing we been hearing all off season so far.
But go ahead with it anyway. As there is NOT ANY team news going on.

Taco over TJ Watt is killing us.

No it is not. The Taco pick was bad, but yet another Watt comparison. He would not have been good here. For one the defense was not his style, and two, our coaches would have wasted him as well. :muttley:

Our last 3 drafts have killed us. Best players are 3rd rounder Gallup and 2nd rounder Awuzzie.

Assuming Van Esch is damaged goods now . But even if he isn’t thats 1 top pick who can start out of last 3 top picks.

That’s a recipe for non playoff teams.

I’m not sure why McClay isn’t receiving more criticism?

I’m not sure why fans want to blame the coaching for top picks being a bust when we see some lower picks working out?

And going back a few years with some top picks working out. But we can’t afford this recent string of misses we’ve had.

Sounds more like Blind Homerism to me simply defending anything Cowboys.

He's a moron. I have him blocked but mistakenly took a peak.

Has nothing to do with homerism or defending anything Cowboys, it is the sam as saying the haters just spewing their normal stuff from the other side of the coin.
No one is defending the FO. It is just fact Watt was not a fit here, and because Rod lost it, he should have been gone years ago. How is that homerism stating that?

We are offering valid criticism. I’m not really sure what you’re offering?

Do you not believe Watt is a greater talent than Taco?
Or that Taco was a bust?

Same as what you are offering. I made a statement and it is not liked, so you disagree, so be it.
But when the other guy brings out the moron card. That makes it personal.

Every spring during the big free agency period beginning in March, many of our fans will begin the annual scream for the FO to sign some big name unrestricted free agents. These are usually big name players with some accomplishments and big price tags. Some are in their prime. Some have their best days in the rear view mirror. Most give sticker shock and require longer commitments.

The best NFL front offices have a a good plan going into the offseason along with who to look at and who to avoid. Our FO IMO has done a pretty good job the last few years not throwing too much cash or commitment to the big name flashes in free agency.

Count me as one of the fans who is usually happier when we don’t spend a bunch cash in free agency. In fact, I’m a big believer in the philosophy of having lots of draft picks with a few key FAs who are not in the highest price range because they typically also want longer deals.

You can sign a few good free agents that can immediately help. But they are usually not the big names and usually are short term rentals.

Bottom line- the draft is where the heart of your team is built. There are a lot of talented young men on college campuses tonight who will be the future of the Dallas Cowboys more than a 28-30 year old vet looking for the biggest payday of their lives.

Yes....I know. We need a few FAs. Just don’t break the bank and expect them to save us. Our future rests primarily on the broad shoulders of Will McClay’s draft analysis. The Draft > FA.
It doesn't matter who they get until they get the coaching/ management right.
Hopefully they are on the right track.
