Do people really believe there is a better option than Dak this year?

Your expectations must be very low for our Cowboys if you believe Dak is the one and there are no other and better options out there.
Yes, we believe we can do better than Dak and that's not really saying much considering his low talent base!
You have to realize some people are just scary people and that's how they live their life. If they get any type of comfort they are done even if where they are at isn't the best. OP sounds like another one of those people and you just got to let them keep living that scary life they live where they don't make any moves because they are scared of the outcome.

You do realize the things I see during the eyeball test with Dak are also things the NFL scouts saw.
Weaknesses
  • Inconsistency mars almost every aspect of his game, especially mechanically
  • Rocks back with a slight hitch in his delivery when putting zip on the ball
  • Can wind up with longer release when going down the field
  • Tendency to release the ball a tad early, resulting in a sailing or fluttering pass
  • Needs to vary the pace of the ball to match the situation/route (no bullets on screens)
  • Location and accuracy are generally poor, makes receivers adjust to off-target balls and minimizes yards after catch
  • Makes very poor decisions at times, forces passes into coverage
  • Footwork can get sloppy, will fall off his base throwing to his left, loses accuracy/velocity
  • Doesn’t possess the heralded “power arm” that he was once rumored to have
  • Deep ball accuracy is lacking, touch passing needs a compass
  • Does not throw with anticipation, poor timing leads to late throws to all areas of the field
  • Can be confused and fooled by more intricate coverage schemes (ex. Alabama’s pattern reading)
  • Lacks accuracy and velocity when throwing on the move
  • Not a great athlete, heavy-footed and lacking lateral quickness and explosiveness as a runner

Yep! But don't try to tell some on this board who put him up there with Jackson and Watson!

All the other things are true at times as well but his lack of ability to get out of the pocket and make plays consistently doing that are his biggest drawbacks to me. We lose yards on misplacement for sure. It makes receivers adjust but that is not the killer - it is the conversion of a 3rd down when the protection is not there and you need a play!

Dak isn't going anywhere.

And neither are the Cowboys.

That contract will officially shut the window and end any hope of a championship the next 5+ years.
That's what people said about Dez's contract and Zeke's contract. Not too bold of a statement claiming we won't win a championship. As a matter of fact, it's a pretty safe bet. As a matter of fact, I'll make a blind bet with you right now for $250. If Dak isn't signed and we save the money, we still won't win a SB in the next 5 years. You game?

While I believe Dak will be the Cowboy's QB for 2020 and beyond, the real question is not whether there are better options available, but whether the team can achieve or exceed expectations with another QB. In essence, this is a classic option theory application.

I could argue that the much misused "bus driver" QB could achieve comparable results as Dak when you consider that the money saved in signing Dak could be used to bolster other positions. I am not advocating the team take this approach. However, I do believe it extremely shortsighted if the FO doesn't have legitimate fallback plans in the event Dak doesn't sign.

You "Dak is going to be here for many years to come" guys must be wondering just a little as to why the deal isn't done.

Jerry is not afraid of writing the checks. He has been bashed over and over for years for overpaying players and being too loyal at times.

If he is convinced that Dak is the long term answer why is there no deal? Even 40mil a year at whatever length of contract Dak wants wouldn't be terrible for a true, long term franchise QB who you are convinced can get it done.

You got to be wondering why this is dragging out so long.

because the parsimonious Stephen, not the philanthropic jerry is now writing the checks.

He's getting signed. Yes, we know, it hurts you Dakahaters.
Learn how to read groupie. That's not what I said and your right it hurts that we won't be winning when it counts. When you're a fan of the team and not a player because of off the field reasons it would hurt you too. You're just a groupie so as long as Dak is the QB you don't care if we win or lose smh.

I don't think there is necessarily a better option then Dak this season. I do know there are hundreds of better options then owing Dak 40 million dollars a year over the next 5 seasons though.
