Rapoport: Cowboys will likely use exclusive tag rather than non-exclusive tag on Dak if no agreement

They should have signed Dak last year after the playoffs if they really wanted him long term.

I think the tag has been the plan for Dak this whole time, no matter what line Jerry or Stephen feeds the media.

I believe the tag is part of the negotiation. It's clear the Cowboys don't want to lose Dak, but they also don't want to pay top overall pay either (nor should they). It will all work out, eventually.

Wait. So there is a lunatic fringe that thinks this franchise is prepared to move on from Dak Prescott?

SLAP!
Man, come to your senses!
Even the Dak Doubter Dora's know we are unprepared! NO ONE SAID WE ARE PREPARED!!!
But with Burreaux, Herbert, Love, Eason etc. it is criminal to not consider these sterling young men.
Tua?
Tua Short, Tua injured. BIG RISK!!!!!

What odd here is the longer they wait, the higher his numbers are going to get. What's even crazier, is they're putting pieces in place that could add a 25-30% to his value this time next year. It's not a reach to think this team could make a deep playoff run this under MM. Deep as in min NFCCG. Now imagine that happening with Dak playing under the franchise tag. Now, what his numbers will be.......100% confident Stephen can kiss the $35-38 goodby coz the floor is likely now $40M easy.

Bottom line IMO.......IF they believe 100% Dak's their guy, then bite the bullet and pay him. But if there's ANY doubt, then we're probably better off NOT tagging him and moving on. JMO

That would be a hard pill to swallow but you are right.

Look, they've had almost 2 years to get ready for this deal. Here was are near the 12th hour and they STILL CAN'T agree.
Why is that the front offices fault! It really seems to me that Dak and his agent received a more than fair offer and they are greedy. This waiting for the new CBA tells me that even if the cap goes up Dak is trying to take all the money. Thats just complete BS! That extra money would be for adding extra players to the roster and increasing base salary on the non starters.

If Miami or the Chargers were willing to trade their first round pick for Dak and Hebert or Tua was there I would do it in a sec. This whole Dak contract is such a distraction and it wont get any better.

I only have a problem with this because they haven’t played a down in the NFL and I can’t be for sure they can transfer to the NFL and be as successful. A lot of busts or QB that can’t get it done at this level. But they are blue chip players.

That makes no sense. Using the exclusive tag gives them leverage as he would make almost $7 million less and they could get 2 first-round picks if a team was dumb to make him an offer that Dallas wouldn't match.
No team is going to give up 2 first-round picks for Dak, though I wish they would.

They can’t sign him if he and his agent aren't willing to sign unless he is top paid player.

As I've said a few times, IF it comes to this(him getting tagged), I honestly believe we could be looking at the beginning of the end. Look, they've had almost 2 years to get ready for this deal. Here was are near the 12th hour and they STILL CAN'T agree. The kicker is Dak numbers are only getting higher, whether Stephen waits until regular or next year. If he's not willing to meet Dak number now, what you think they'll be a year from now. For example, I'm sure Dak would sign for $30M immed after the 2018 season but of course, then he was only worth $25M in the eyes of many. So what would have looked like an overpay then NOW would be a bargain.

I disagree with the move as I think that they're costing themselves millions unnecessarily.
