Because sports is greater than curing cancer, no doubt...
Tony can make the lives of many cancer patitents that much better with his excellent and entertaining analysis of football games. Horrible excuse for your crapping on someone doing good for not only himself but for others.

Romo was almost unbearable at first predicting every play with his crackling voice.

But he’s simmered down and become more entertaining offering analytics after the play mostly which is more traditional commentary.

Couldn't be happier for one who deserves the best life has to offer.

Tony will be a sure-fire, invaluable asset to any broadcasting crew.

$17 million a year? Breaking out my calculator for some advanced math......that comes out to $1 million a week in a 17 game season. Not bad work if you can get it. Although I wonder if the network would only pay him $250,000 for the 17th game?
He's broadcasting preseason games and the playoffs.

it's weird how the broadcaster position almost mimics the QB situation in the NFL. There's hardly anyone worth paying and you might just start seeing average broadcasters demanding more now lol

I have enormous respect for Tony Romo (the guy has received and continues receiving an unfathomable amount of unnecessary criticism). However, I believe there are people who have not followed the Pro Football Hall of Fame Board of Selectors (BoS) nomination and induction process and extremely overestimate his chance of getting into the Hall on the strength of his current broadcasting career.

Projecting his entry into the franchise's Ring of Honor is a no-brainer. Jones is the only judge for getting into the Ring. Jones loves Romo, although Jones' appreciation wavered momentarily during 2016. Jones is only waiting for what he thinks is the right time to pull the trigger. It is a done deal in my opinion.

On the OTHER hand, the BoS controls entry into the Hall. There are decades of examples for why Romo will not pass their eligibility test if it is weighed solely with Romo's stature and popularity in NFL broadcasting as contributor criteria. Additionally, there is an even unlikely possibility the BoS will seriously get into a long discussion of hypothetically combining Romo's playing career with his post-career in broadcasting alone. That perception is simply not reflected in actual Hall of Fame nominations and enshrinements.

Romo has taken an undeniably solid first step towards the Hall. Currently, he squats at the peak of the NFL broadcasting mountain but he must work towards reaching the moon to finish that possible journey. Or reach the international space station at the very least. I have faith that Romo could do so but it also depends on whether he WANTS to expand his resume well beyond what he does now. And no one knows if that will happen until Romo does significantly more on camera than simply sharing a booth with Jim Nantz.

I agree to an extent, but don't think he has to expand his resume. I think for broadcasting it's about longevity. He's got to become the guy people think of for years to come when it comes to broadcasting football. His playing career will be a consideration in making the hall, so because he doesn't have any hardware, his broadcast career has to pick up the slack. He's looking at probably needing a good 20- to 25-year career as a Madden-esque broadcaster to earn the type of credibility he'll need.

Personally I don’t need someone telling me what they think is what’s going to happen. But I guess if you don’t understand the game you need someone like Tony
