SBN: Five late-game sequences that doomed the 2019 Cowboys

I’m just trying to imagine where we’d be if we hadn’t traded for Cooper last year.

Where would that 3-4 team have finished?

And what would our mindset be after missing playoffs 3 consecutive years now?

Maybe we’re closer to that 3-4 team than a 10-6 team?

Would we have paid Zeke and looking to pay Dak?

The fact defenses openly focus on shutting down our running forcing our QB and passing game to beat them says much .
You just simply cant go out there with the same plan and scheme regardless of opponent.

They never bothered to exploit a weakness of the specific opponent.

That was just mind bogglingly frustrating. Jerry playing with his toy, and wanting SO badly for his hand picked coach to succeed so he could get as much credit as he could....

Wonder how long before MM gets a real taste of how bad the meddling actually is....or when Jerry picks that right time to run him out of town and hire his next puppet Moore.

It might not take long. I don’t expect him to have a very long leash. 2 years max. And I’d agree Moore could be next in line .

Take your pick on who to blame, but the one common denominator was who is no longer here in Dallas...
Jason Garrett and his coaching staff.

What say you?

It does not matter...

Garrett is gone and now the Head Coach will be required to get results or Stephen Jones will fire him.

Prior to the 2019 season Jerry had given Stephen all power to run the team except for the power to fire Garrett because of Jerry's attachment to Garrett.

Now Jerry has no history with McCarthy and SJ will fire him if he fails to deliver. Obviously MM will get more than 1 season but the days of the HC being Jerry's red-headed step son are gone.

What does it truly say about our way overpaid Oline and RB???

It says way more about our average QB, who with all that talent around him is carried time and time again, but can't get the team over the hump due to his poor skill set.

How is this even possible? :muttley:

Nice read, thanks. Looks like the OC the QB are still here not sure what will change as the HC, OC and QB seem to be the 3 main problems not sure why Jerry didn’t clean house. Not sure MM can over come the 2 remaining problems but will be fun watch Jerry’s misery.

What doomed us in 2019 was not being able to win close games. We had a couple of 2 point losses and lost three games by a total of 8 points.

Lame duck. The whole staff I think knew they were goners. Not a good way to show other teams your worth hiring. But these coaches get recycled to other teams. Richard is likely getting another job. Marinelli already has one and so does JG.

Yup the nfl is a good old boy league and they love to recycle coaches.

Literally just about every player on the team is a common denominator.

What happened to the educational system in Texas to cause such over reaching?

Sad we were in almost every game. We need a coach that won’t abandon what’s working. We always hate when we abandon a working running game. But sometimes we had the passing game going. ST sticking us with long drives didn’t help either. Did any of those games mentioned have missed FG attempts that later bit us. I am sure there was.

Exactly. What doomed the Cowboys was Jason Garrett. That’s it, end of story.
