How many of you would take less?

You assume greed, for whatever reason. The market value was last set by Seattle. That's just the way it goes.

Dallas couldn't win a championship in for years while Prescott made one million a year. You suggested you'd take a 10 million cut to 30. That wouldn't have made a difference. Unrealistic.
Prescott deserves to get as much as he can. He played for nothing at a high level for 4 seasons.
It's not his fault the staff couldn't build a better team and it's not his responsibility to "take one for the team."
Elliott didn't. Lawrence didn't.

True, but on the other hand neither is it the team's responsibility to "Take one" for Dak.
That knife cuts both ways.

Maybe you are getting me confused with another poster. I wasn’t making excuses or defending NFL players going through millions. My stance was it happens and it’s easy to do.
I went back and read your post. I think you were, and I think you kind off are now.

Of course it happens and it is easy to do for some players.

Yup, agreed. Problem is, some people just can't understand the damage overpaying a few players does to the rest of the team when you're restricted by a salary cap like the one we have.
You lose good players in Free Agency, like we are about to do, because you over pay guys. The Patriot way works: trust your scouting department and coaching staff, to find new talent and coach them up when you have free agents that want to much money. Keep the good players that are affordable.

You are also looking at a lifelong career.

The average NFL career lasts 3.3 years. You cash in while you can.
And then they can go get another career like everyone else does in life. These guys aren't any better than any other human being on earth. :).

It's ridiculously funny to me that some keep saying "take less"!!!! Would you settle? Less money for your family? Less money for a career that might be cut short with and injury! Less money for a team that will cut you as soon as you slip? What the hell?? I get it, salary cap....blah, blah ,blah. I wouldn't settle and I sure as hell don't blame anyone that would.
Dak knows that any deal done now is going to look like a bargain after the new CBA is signed and that’s why he’s trying to get the best deal possible. He also knows that this contract is going to set him and his current and future family up for the foreseeable future. I don’t blame him one bit.

Disagree, Prescott has already taken less than 1 million a year, he deserves to get whatever he can. Anything can happen; this could be his last extension.

You could say the same thing about virtually every player on the team, but the cap just doesn't allow that. And what does it mean he "deserves" to get whatever he can? Why, just because we won the Super Bowl last year? Oh wait, we went 8-8 last season.
Dak wasn't cheated or anything, he was paid what he was supposed to be paid for a 4th round pick/rookie.
I want to see Dak get paid as well, just not break the freaking bank. Dak is not the only guy holding his hand out.

Add to that, the vast majority of them gained access to a free college education based on their athletic skills giving them a leg up on career options that most don't have. Whether or not they took advantage of that opportunity is on them.

Guarantees in a contract are, well, guaranteed. A Super Bowl win is not, no matter how team friendly the deal is a player is willing to sign. Accordingly, it's not certain that taking less would be more profitable. Plus, I doubt Dak believes he is condemned to repeated 9-7 seasons by signing a contract that he feels is reasonable under current market conditions.
Dak may not believe it but he evidence is 100% on film. The Cowboys were 3-5 before trading a first round for Cooper. Now if Dak takes top 2 QB salary cap space and Cooper has to walk, then that says to me that 9-7 was being generous unless MM makes that big of an impact his first few seasons.
