People need to stop. Dak is not signing for 33 or 35. If he were going to sign for that kind of money, this deal would likely already be done. That's not what he and his agent want. If you want to say that Jerry and the team are stupid or whatever, for not paying him, then lets be honest. We are talking about paying him something in the area of 40 and for a period of like 3 years. Is that what all of you want? Is that the deal you want the team to sing up for?

Serious question...

If I'm Dak, I move on to a more respectful owner and front office. Cousins, Goff, and Wentz all got paid..... but Dak who's better than all of them CAN'T get paid???? We don't DESERVE Dak!!!! If this was Romo, he would have BEEN paid his rightful due. Let that sink in.

That isnt correct. A tag does get superseded by a new deal, if it's in place before the start of the season.

actually by july 15th but same point is that tag doesn't automatically bind for that season.

article 10 of the cba

k) Any Club designating a Franchise Player shall have until 4:00 p.m., New York time, on July 15 of the League Year (or, if July 15 falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the first Monday thereafter) for which the designation takes effect to sign the player to a multiyear contract or extension. After that date, the player may sign only a one-year Player Contract with his Prior Club for that season, and such Player Contract may not be extended until after the Club’s last regular season game of that League Year.

The crazy thing here is there's NOTHING to suggest Dak's contract numbers are going down with more time.

The Cowboys have placed the exclusive franchise tag on Dak Prescott, according to a source. The Cowboys’ hope is to sign Prescott to a long-term deal well before July 15 but recent talks have not gone far. Since the system has been in place, only eight quarterbacks have been tagged and only two have played under the tag the entire season: Kirk Cousins twice (2016-17) in Washington and Drew Brees in 2005 in San Diego. Next question: Will Prescott show up for offseason work without deal?

Todd Archer, ESPN Staff Writer

Don't be surprised if Prescott's camp pushes the button and threatens a hold out ..no offseason..... no camp, .. no preseason .. that would REALLY push the panic button and force
the Jones hand to re-sign him.

Bottom line........both player and team are stuck with the tag after July 15 if no long-term deal is reached.

If I were a player, I wouldn't give a crap about being "endeared" to fickle, piker fans. Dak was the good guy last year with Zeke going after his money. Now that Dak is going after his "the right way" as fans deemed it last year, he's seen as a bad guy. This is why you get what you can on your own terms and ignore the noise.
I would think it helps you to be loved by fans when picking up endorsement deals.

The issue is years and the guaranteed money. Not the AAV. $35 million for four years would get it done if they would give him the guaranteed money. The Cowboys are giving less guaranteed money than Wentz and Goff, and the Cowboys want it as a 6-year deal instead of 4 (meaning Dak would play for three years with no guaranteed money.) It is a worse deal in every aspect other than AAV.
