To add, nobody knows how hard the Cowboys front office is working to get deals done. It’s not like we have first dibs on players and we’re the only team in the league - there are 31 other teams trying to improve constantly. We have a lot of holes to fill and not a ton of money (approx. $21.5 million as of right now).
very true..

heh Jerry had little to do with some of this. The problem with the FO is who they listen too. Listening to Marinelli landed us Taco (who was still the best 4-3 DE available) and Hill. Listening to Marinelli also had us cut taco who showed a boost in productivity for miami.

The robert quinn trade was a success-

randy has been a failure- but that could change if he actually plays this year.
Who's the socks to jock GM who hired Marinelli? and then made decisions based on the coaches and people he hired?
Quinn trade yet to be determined.
Randy - Could, would, perhaps, maybe but history says more failure.

It could be worse, we could be Bears fans. Their moves are puzzling at best.

Not true. The Bear have played in two NFC championship games (seasons 2006-2007 & 2010-2011) and played in the 2007 Super Bowl in the past 25 years. Conversely, our Cowboys have not won a divisional playoff game since Jan 7th, 1996, much less even appeared in an NFC championship game since 1996. Since we pride ourselves on being (or we used to be) the gold standard for NFL franchises, the only measuring stick is deep playoff runs. So based on facts, it has been better for Bears fans the past quarter of a century than for Cowboy fans. I know my Cowboy history and we got nothin' to brag about since 1996.

jerry and his boy, have done ok building offenses, but they have always been bad at building a great defense.
the 2 losses to GB in playoffs, was in large part due to the defense could not stop GB.
They dont get it and they never will.
They also prioritize offense, and when they do make moves , draft picks, for defense, they just are not very good at it.
Jerry has most always focused on having a good outside pass rusher, and a good LB or 2. He just doesnt know
or appreciate the Whole defense concept.

So did Demarcus Lawrence and Taco tied his sack total in less games. Trust me there was no justification for what the Dumbo GM did with the DL for the past 30 years.

Again.........the Myth about Lawrence is false. Taco was horrid. 100% justification. What did he do in Miami?

Dumbo was Dumbo because he listened to and hired Marinelli.

Dumbo has been Dumbo since the end of the last Super Bowl. Oops was that really a quarter of a century ago. Times flies when you are the most profitable NFL franchise.

The problem with the Jones FO is simple. They never seem to have a clear, proactive plan that they stick with. Always reacting to what other teams do instead of deciding what WE want to do. They’re always waiting on other teams to “set the market” instead of knowing the market and getting who they want. It’s just plain stupid if you’re planning to build a championship roster.

Proactive is always > reactive.

they are not proactive because they may know oil and merchandising but they don’t know football! They have to wait and watch what real football people on other teams do before they try to hack something together.

This is simply a false statement/exaggeration/misrepresentation/dissembling or whatever other euphemism you want to use for a blatant outright lie. The Cowboys (like so many other professional sports teams) has had a very coherent plan. But it simply hasn't worked the way they hoped (like all the other teams who don't win championships). The lack of results is not proof they lacked a plan.

But when you draft someone considered the best defensive player in the draft (Morris Claiborne), and he ends up being a bust, then your plan didn't work. When your franchise QB has season altering injuries (2008, 2010, 2015, 2016), it blows holes in your plans. When you draft a couple of highly regarded DE's, who both turn out to be head cases

They don't have a real plan. Their plan is largely happenstance and emotional. No more visible than a few years ago when they refused to sign Murray to a big contract citing their studies on the wear and tear on TBs, how teams don't see the return on big investments in the position, etc.

Then the 2015 season happened and they overreacted and used the 4th pick in the draft on a year after arguing putting big resources in the TB position was unnecessary.

Taco was terrible. Glad that loser is gone. Quinn was one dimensional. Was as bad against the run as he was good in the pass rush. Quinn was part of the problem last year. And did you see the contract he just signed?

Problem was that he listened to the moron Merinelli on what kind of Dlineman he wanted.

McCoy is a good pickup at a bargain price. We need ONE more good Dlineman. Either in FA or the draft and this Dline will be looking up.

Lmao. Taco had 5 sacks with the Dolphins. Our overrated, overpaid DLaw had the same number. Funny how Taco immediately got better when he left Dallas.

Every year we hear how solid this DL will be. Every year it is a huge issue.

Taco Charlton finished with 5 sacks on the year compared to DeMarcus Lawrence's 5.5 sacks.

There was no reason to reduce Quinn's deal down from 2-years to 1-year and now he is gone after a monster 2019.

You spelled "lucky" wrong. Of all the players who had 5 sacks, Taco had by far the lowest number of QB pressures and DLaw had by far the highest number. Its like saying a .200 hitter in baseball had some home runs so he must be a great player.

Freak out threads on the first official day of free agency. Oh CBZ, never change.....
I don't think fans are freaking out at all. Jerry sells the sizzle ever year but we always end up eating Tofu, we haven't had steak since January of 1996!
Take that in for a second. Jerry is an abject failure from a GM, team building perspective. He will botch it every single time. The biggest problem is his goal is not to win a SB. When the offseason starts, his goal is not... what do we have to do to compete for a SB?. It's mostly about what who can I sign to stir up the media. I need to get a war daddy, we will make Dak a happy man, we will sign Zeke, etc, etc, etc
We need him to **** and move this team forward. He is truly satisfied with 3 SB rings, he is a HOF'er. Game set match. As long as he is minting money he will not change a thing.

I can't believe the team that had 20 straight winning seasons, 8 of the first 30 SB's now is satisfied by not being the Bears or Cleveland.
We are a sad group of fans who have been beaten down to accept mediocrity.
Just think back to 4 years ago how sad many people were when Romo was injured. We were pining for a guy who hadn't won a lick and put up great passing stats in a terrific passing era.
It's sad that I have to watch great Cowboy games on youtube.. I don't even consider myself old.. very early 40's.

Writing anything definitive on the second day of free agency is considered freaking out. At this same time last year the only moves we had were losing Beasley and Damien Wilson. Then we signed Cobb and Quinn later on, all four of those were the correct moves.
