So I’m not going to disclose any names. I work at a Mercedes-Benz dealership and we had a client come in here and purchase a vehicle. This particular client happened to be a player who played for McCarthy and Garrett. He said he was shocked McCarthy took the offer from the Cowboys. When I asked him why, he said that when he got to the Cowboys D Law told him “don’t worry about Jason Garrett, he’s Jerry’s puppet. Just go straight to Jerry.”

That obviously comes as no shock, but it was interesting to hear somebody confirm the locker rooms perspective of Jason Garrett. I asked him why he was shocked that McCarthy took the job and he told me that McCarthy is the complete opposite of Garrett. He is not a puppet. I asked him if he felt like Jerry relinquished his role as being the puppet master and he said “absolutely. That’s the feel in the locker room because McCarthy has wiped out everybody and Jerry would’ve never allowed Garrett to do that. “.

Sounds like a lot of players are shocked because the feel is that McCarthy is the man and he’s the guy you go to now instead of Jerry Jones.

He left me with something that was pretty exciting as we were finishing our conversation... “ we going to take it this year”. I kind of nodded my head and said something to along the lines of I hope so and then he said “trust me, with McCarthy you’re going to see a whole different team this year and we’re going to be a hard team to beat. It’s going to look and feel like a whole new Cowboys team with MM and the coaches he brought in “!
Isn't BS information banned from this site? Come on mods this is plain BS with no factual base what so ever, this is worse that the barber said!!!!

Would love for this to be true (the player's sentiment, not doubting the OP) but not a single move made since his hire indicates we aren't business as usual. These are all Jones moves. No way that Jerry is actually "relinquishing" his role, influence, or authority.

Completely believable that Joe Thomas would feel that way, but players are wrong all the time. Go back and read what/how the players felt about Wade Phillips, Jason Garrett, Rod Marinelli, etc.

The first player I thought of that played for both coaches is Randall Cobb. I also believe there are few people that won't say that both coaches have different styles and methods of coaching. I also think that there may be a couple of players that didn't like Garrett and that they may embellish things because of their dislike. Out of all the players and coaches that played and coached under Garrett only one has spoken ill of him, besides this alleged statement by Lawrence, and that was Bryant who a month later said the complete opposite thing about Garrett. I think if there was this real wide spread disrespect for Garrett there would be many statements of this type all over the media. Garrett has no hold or control over any player now so there is no reason not to publicly say it if it is true.

I'm not saying that this player didn't say this to you, only that this player may have embellished things a little.

I could this being true and also exaggerated at the same time. Jerry has always meddled too much and McCarthy had to have gotten some understanding he would do less of it for him to take the job.

But at the same time I really have a hard time seeing a backup LB being told "Yeah, forget about the HC, call the team's owner whenever the bathroom is out of paper towels".

Sounds like the typical second hand story that has some truth and some exaggeration.

Awesome stuff!

Thanks very much for sharing that conversation and info.

I can't say that I had a similar conversation or anything, but some comments from former McCarthy players that I have heard and read gave me the same impression as your story does.

Former Packers receiver Greg Jennings now signs McCarthy's praises whenever his name is brought up, but that wasn't always the case. When the Packers wouldn't pay him and he hit free agency, he did everything he could to badmouth the Packers, McCarthy, and Aaron Rodgers. And during one of those attempts, he talked about how signing with the Vikings was a much more relaxed atmosphere and how he could 'breathe again', and how he was 'no longer walking on eggshells.' That atmosphere resulted in a 5-10-1 record and the end of abysmal Leslie Frazier era in Minnesota, where the team stuck and Jennings didn't stay too long.

The point is, that in trying to badmouth McCarthy, he actually painted him as a disciplinarian that kept his players in line, and successful.

Could this be Clinton-Dix buying a new car since he got a new deal?

I would hope a player would be that positive and not say "hey, put it all on the Eagles this year". I agree it will look like a different team but better has yet to be proven.
