Preface this by saying that I don’t think we sign any DE before the draft, if at all. But one DE I’ve had my eye on as a late, cheap upside signing (kinda like the Quinn trade last year) is Olivier Vernon. Vernon is set to make $15.5m this year in the final year of his contract for CLE, but they can cut him with no dead money. CLE just signed DE Adrian Clayborn (below). No doubt a Vernon cut is coming (or I guess he could agree to a restructure). He’s not played a full season the last 3 years. But he’s still only 29. And in those last 3 years - 33 games played - he’s had 93 tackles and 17 sacks. He produces when he plays. If he would take a one year prove it deal for <$8m, he might be a target after the draft. Thoughts?

Eh, I'd take him for the right price.
Me too, although I don't know what I'd have him do...
Maybe do some really good pranks on some friends and in-laws.

That could be fun!

I remember, ages ago, working for an advertising agency in L.A. and one of my co-workers was dating an O-Lineman for the Raiders.
I had the front office with windows, so I was the 1st person to see who came through the front door and apparently he thought it would be a hilarious idea to smash on the office door to almost the point of it breaking (and it was never locked) and then jumped in, tearing his shirt off and howling like King flipping Kong.

I almost died from laughing and then he realized that the only person that saw him doing all that was me.
And then she walks out of her office and sees him.

Completely confused why he's shirtless.

HA HA HA HA!!!!

I need to get back in touch with her, ask her what his name was again.

I think it is 100% clear that the Cowboys are either going DL or CB in the first round.

If that is truly the case, then what sense does it make for them to sign a big priced corner or DE?

I even think that they are thinking that if they take a DT with the first pick like Kinlaw, then they can always play Mccoy at DE if they have to.

Agreed, which is why I prefaced it with no signing before the draft. But if we whiff on DE in draft, Vernon could be a good target.

    EVERSON GRIFFENDL, UNSIGNED FREE AGENT

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports free agent DE Everson Griffen is interested in signing with the Seahawks.
It comes 10 days after the Tacoma News Tribune reported the Seahawks were interested in Griffen, though likely as a Jadeveon Clowney fallback plan. It is Clowney who is holding up Griffen's market. The Browns have also been reported as a possible Griffen landing spot. Griffen has said a new deal with the Vikings is off the table.

Probably just a matter of time ......but yea I'd be interested health is the key.
OLIVIER VERNONDL, CLEVELAND BROWNS

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports the Browns will "probably" move on from DE Olivier Vernon this offseason.
Vernon is owed a non-guaranteed $15.5 million in the final year of his deal. After an injury-shortened 2019, Vernon would likely need a pay cut to return with the Browns — something he seems unlikely to accept. Cleveland may look to free agency — they've been linked to Everson Griffen — to replace Vernon as Myles Garrett's bookend.

What is Clevelands cap space situation?

Browns and Bengals almost always have had a ton of cap space. Browns actually spent some money but I suspect they have a lot of room. With questions about the economic future in the air some teams might be tempted to make some business decisions - dump some high salaries.

Sure. At this point I’m happy with a solid RDE that doesn’t break the bank

I'd take him at the right price, he was ridiculously overpaid by the Giants and will likely get cut anyway since his salary is 15 Million. But if he came in at the right price I'd be fine with it.

Sure, but the Browns paid him 15 Million last year for 3 sacks and his contract is 15 Million for this season also.
