DUI in June of 2019? I’d like to hear more about his amazing life transformation because that wasn’t very long ago. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got no problem with this at all because it’s an absolutely no risk deal. I’d take Dez back on a similar deal. Mess up in anyway just one time and if we decide to, you’re gone. All it cost is a training cap roster spot. They give those to 25-30 guys every year that have no shot whatsoever to make it so I’ve got no problem giving a few of them to reclamation projects, especially if they were once great players at a position we could use some help at.

Exactly,, it probably has very little to no guaranteed money.
If anyone questions this move, just ask yourself if A Smith can beat out anyone and be even at the least a contributor, would you be happy with this?
Looking forward to seeing what kind of shape he is in, but I doubt we just go sign the guy on a wim,, he has been checked out.
exactly people crying over 5 sacks from Tank at 20mil ,if we get 5 sacks and some solid play from his a rotational guy, thats solid move..perspective..

How did you get my name on a quote that I didn't make?

It was copied directly from your post at 8:18 p.m. yesterday. If you had copied that from someplace else, it didn't show that.

In any case I was just copying that to save time so as to give some background to my post, it wasn't a rebuttal or confirmation of the comment itself or an attack on you...

These are the kind of signings that, in the past, have basically been done and then when they don't work out, the teams says, "We tried to get guys in here. We signed X, Y, Z craptastic, over the hill players and they didn't work out. Mean while, ignoring the fact that they could have gotten decent talent if they had just stepped up. The Ravens signed Derek Wolfe for 6 mil for pete's sake. I mean, we sign Aldon Smith for 4. OK...............

I like this post from the Niners message board;

"This is an ideal situation for him. Opposite of a talented rusher (D-Law), solely playing End (no LB -> DE assignments), and reunited with Jim Tomsula. It's a no risk, high reward type signing."
love the Chinese flag and pig/bat. funny how all these flu epidemics and now the newest always come back to china. most wars of attrition aren't so subtle.

Wow 4mill for a dude out of the league that long??

how do you not go get Everson Griffin since you essentially have a Aldon smith clone in RandyG also coming back

Not really high on this move

Griffin is older and will be more expensive.
it's not rocket science.

This organization is absolutely terrible. This guy has multiple DUI's, guilty of a hit and run and a domestic violence arrest where he held a woman against her will and bit her wrists to injure her.

I hate this organization with a passion and I can't wait to watch it fall flat on its face if and when we have football again.

This is just terrible. The organization that forced Greg Hardy on it's fan base now pulls this nonsense.

All because he is cheap which says it all about the Jones family. I hope this team goes 3-13.

ok bb byeeeee

We'll see.
He hasn't played football in five years so you're right. We'll see if he can still do it. But what we don't have to wait and see is that this is a no-risk contract. At the least he screws up in camp and never sees a game check. At the most he achieves all the incentives and costs the team four mil. Four mil for a productive pass rusher is peanuts and I'm probably missing something but I don't see a down side.

calm down im betting theres a ton of structured language that protects the team, hes going have to earn that 4mil being ion the field, not get in trouble and im sure statistics escalators etc..no way they said heres 4mil for showing up even though you've been retired 4years..

The money is not the problem really. It's the idea that we sign this guy and don't go after other options. If the guy doesn't work out and you don't pay him much, how does that really help the team? We are basically in the same situation rather then improving a problem area. That's the real problem.

Seems to me however that the time spent researching Smith's current situation, chances of being able to play well, etc. could have been better spent researching more current free agents. I guess if Tomsula had been contacted by Smith and it didn't take a lot of time and effort, then fine...

Some people on here are incapable of being happy.

From purely a football perspective, how is this not a good signing? Literally no financial obligation, and if it works out and Smith is even half the player he once was, it’s great for us.

To those who whine about past character issues — just stop. Spare me your self righteousness.

People can and do change; and if he hasn’t changed, he’s out the door with no $ wasted. This is a football team. Being a choirboy is not a prerequisite.

my rabid Eagles fan friend loves the signing for Dallas. not an ounce (pun intended) of risk.

Ok....but none of us get to decide who needs to cheer for some other team.
If he were an actual Eagles fan and he was trolling the board, which he is *clearly* doing, would you feel the same way?

Hell no, he’s be benched

Frankly, I can’t understand why anyone would defend this guy.

I didn't take it as 'an attack', I just know that those weren't my words. Can you quote my entire original post for me so I can see it?
