Good point. And nobody really knows for sure expect him and the cowboys.

But I just don't see how you can justify giving him 35 a year, regardless of the length. I know Goff and Wentz both are right around that number. But Goff was coming off a tremendous season in which he lost in the Superbowl. Wentz does not have near the surrounding talent that dak does, but just led the eagles on a great streak and clearly outplayed dak in the biggest game of the season. I'm not saying Wentz is better because I don't know. But I would take him over dak. He has elite arm talent and dak does not. There's a reason dak was a fourth round pick and Wentz went at the top of the draft. He would have been mvp if not for his injury a couple years ago.
I think a lot of it is just timing with Dak - he's negotiating a year later, and market conditions change and prices always go up. Plus he's negotiating after his contract has expired and they weren't, which give him more leverage.

And while it's true Goff negotiated at a high point, his extension will still be paid at the new level even after falling a little flat last year, so it's much easier to argue that Dak deserves at least as much as Goff.

As for Wentz, he has actually been beaten by the Cowboys more than the other way around, and I don't think one game last year would really change things much. Dak has historically been at least as good as Wentz, and probably better, and certainly more durable.

As for the draft status argument, a quick and easy response to ask if you think because Mariota was a high 1st round pick and Brady was a 6th round pick that means Mariota deserves to have made more money the last 5 years than Brady? The reality is draft status matters when a player gets drafted, but 4 years into an NFL career what matters is performance in the NFL. OF course, market conditions at the point a player is negotiating also matter.

Stop all negotiations.

We are becoming the joke of the NFL.

Dak is making us look like absolute fools.

We have to move on.

Even if it's Cooper Rush at QB. Find a team we can trade with and move up for a real QB and draft him.

Get him ready to take over before year end or next season. This is just a bump in the road.

Does Dak show leadership for the team here..for the other 52 guys who have to depend on his decisions?

No..next question.

What really aggravates me is how this freaking team always paints itself into a corner and never trades guys off when they should be traded. They ditz around until it's too late and wait for their lame comp picks.

Or there is an industry of people who realize that Dak Prescott was the 77th highest paid QB in the NFL for the better part of all 4 years and believe it reasonable that he gets a contract that pays him not a penny less than market rate.
I am confused.

You want him to get market rate?

For his career so far?

And we will just discount all the other money for the 52 other players and just call it what?

The cost of doing business to have Dak?

I never saw the Colts do that when Payton left them.

They let him go, said thanx and got another QB.

Payton won in Denver but he had another great team there in Denver with a defense to kill for.

Dak will get paid what he has earned and nothing more. He will not get north of $40 mil/yr anywhere in this lifetime.

He's dreaming.

Yeah..

With this team it's always "Hairball Time".

We screw around and then have to choke on a bad situation and then we have to puke it up.

Very messy and it smells..

Cleaned many in my day. Jerrah too.

Nothing more amusing than grown men arguing about something they CANNOT change or have no say so whatsoever. All 14 pages of this, Jerry cares nothing about.
Your right, let's shut down the forum.

Do we know what deal Dak is turning down or are we just taking the Jones's word for it?
Sounds like you're really looking for reasons to blame Jerry and Stephen for something. As far as I know the numbers didn't even come from "the Joneses." They came from Calven Watkins and weren't the $35m I said. It was $33m. Sorry. Regardless, even with that $2m misquote it's still more than a SB-winning QB who carries his team and a lot more than guys everyone seems to compare his money to--on contracts of the same length. Dak and his money men haven't quibbled with any of the contract details that have emerged in the media. Have they?

I like Dak, but his not attending the "Virtual" offseason shows a disrespect for his teammates. With a new coach he should be learning what he can. This pisses me off, even if he hasn't signed the tag. As much as I want to keep him, maybe its time to move on without him. Let him sit at home for a year.

Imagine if we did make a move for Herbert, Love or Hurts.

I don't want to build up my hopes because wow we could actually be in the Superbowl conversation over the next three years.

This is nearly getting exciting...

Oh really?

I said the team should hire AndY Reid the day he was fired..

Im telling the Cowboys to drop their Alex Smith and try and draft a superstar at the position.

Maybe I’m doing exactly what the Chiefs and other championship teams do. Win with QBs on cheap Rookie deals.

Do you pay attention to how teams are winning Superbowls or are you just a Dak fan and are fine with being stuck in the middle?
I’m not a fan of any one player, I’m a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and I realize that one single player isn’t going to win us 19 games or lose us 19 games. I’m a realist - you live in a fantasy world & you think the front office sucks at everything and the roster is dog crap. You’re wrong about 97% of the crap you say.

FWIW. Didn't watch the video

Source: Dak to skip Cowboys' virtual offseason

A source tells Mike Florio Dak Prescott will skip the Cowboys' virtual offseason program as he still waits on a long-term deal with Dallas.

Dak is not worth all this drama or money. He is better than average QB perhaps, but not a star much less a superstar. I'd draft a QB high this year and look for a trade in the near future and be done with this nonsense of wanting to be paid like he has won superbowls. If you watched some of the Alvin Harper highlights from a recent thread you may have noticed how often he was hit perfectly in stride, even way down field. Most of Dak's throws are behind the receiver so that the receiver has to stop and attempt to reach back. Dak has been great value for a late 4th round pick, but I'd pocket the "winnings" and trade him for a #1 somewhere if possible.

What am I wrong about?

The whole nation is talking about Dak and saying the things I’m saying and showing why signing Dak may not be the best move for our long term future.
