BS. The offer they gave is geared to make him be well underpaid once the next wave of signings happened.
what ????? underpaid...Heck he is well over paid now !

The mistake was they stupidly waited to offer him a deal. It should have happened the second the 2018 season ended before LA and Philly extended Goff and Wentz. Remove their deals of 110 in guaranteed money on 4 year extensions and this would not have happened.
The first offer was Sept 2019.Well, they've been working on Contract offers since 2018, I believe. I don't understand the comment of the whole waited to offer a deal?
Dak does not want to wait to renegotiate his next deal.
He has not even performed up to the needed standard. Who knows if Dak will still be wanted in 2015?
This guy comes from an overinflated vision of himself. NFL history is full of Daks.
If I was Dallas, I would say..
"Take it or leave it."
Sometimes the best thing to do is just say "No".
History is full of turning points where one side or the other refuses to budge anymore.
The Battle of the Bulge where the Allied commander told the German Panzer units " nuts" fo their demands for surrender.
When the Greeks at Thermopoli told the Persians they were not crossing the mountains to conquer Greece. They said no and built a wall with the Persian dead.
Saying no can change things in a hurry.
No Dak.
Now what?
The first offer was Sept 2019.
For the team either. Just as Dak would be without a team for a year, the team would be without a QB.they tagged him, I'd say that's the short term he wanted. lmao.. take it or set out this year. The game doesn't slow down once you lose a year.
Yep, might as well just tag if its 3 years!

First of all, we don't know that Dak is asking for a 3 year deal. Most reports suggest that the hold up is more that the Cowboys are looking for a 5-6 year deal rather than the more typical 4 year deal. But even so, Dak didn't come looking for a new deal before his rookie contract was up, and he very easily could have, so why would we believe he will go down that path in the future? If they give Prescott a three year deal (2020-2022), Todd will be knocking at the door of the Jones boys after the 2021 season before the final year of the deal. The cost of the position will be reset by Mahomes and likely Russell Wilson by then, so Dallas will have to top those numbers and likely add three years as an extension. So by the end of the 2024 season, the same dance will begin again.
I have'nt heard 2 or 3 years before, but it is an ineresting concept. Let's do the math. They aren’t going to budge on the length. He wants to gamble and attempt to cash in again. I would just like to know is it 2,3, or 4 years that Dak wants. If it’s shorter than 4 years then I understand JJ side of it. If Dak wants 3 years and 105 million or 2 years 70 million then it’s not kool. But i do hope that Dak is as good as he thinks he is.
Hell, I'm hungry for the opportunity, but I don't think I would help the Cowboys win. You think they would be interested in my 3 games of QB experience when I was in 7th grade?Yeah, but someone else is always 'hungry for their opportunity'...
May as well just phone in the 2020 season, but "we showed Dak!"
If he chooses not to play under the tag then that's 2 years without a QB. That's not good for either side. Both sides are better off to figure out something they can live with.tag him again next year. 2 years out of the league and see what the speed does to him if and when he comes back.
we can pick up an average guy and let him throw low-risk passes and run Zeke in the ground. hum like 2016?For the team either. Just as Dak would be without a team for a year, the team would be without a QB.
I wondered what he wanted. I assumed 4 years max. And assumed JJ wants 6 at least. You would want to think Dak would want some security.I have'nt heard 2 or 3 years before, but it is an ineresting concept. Let's do the math.
2 years:
Assuming say 33 million a year guarenteed, of course is 66 million.
Under the tag now he's going to get about 27 million from the latest reworked deals by top paid QBs. That leaves 39 million for next years tag at a 120% premium over what the normal QB tag would be next year. I would say that is a wash over 2 years, except that this is no 66 million guarentee, advantage FO in not doing a deal is Dak and his agent are locked into 2 tears. Just tag him twice, same money total, but the team and not the player is protected.
3 years:
Assuming say 33 million a year guarenteed, of course is 99 million. Would they guarentee all 3 years? Maybe? Assuming from about that the 2 year math is correct, the 3rd year escalation WAS (I say that because I don't know if it changed under the new CBA) 144%. We also need to consider salaries (and the associated TAG amount) will rise, unlike this year. If I figure 10% year (all very estimated) would bring that number to ~ 33 million and the QB tag to ~47.5 million. So 27 (Y1)+ 31 (Y2) and 47.5 (Y3) is 105.5 million. Not that far from 3 years 99 million guarenteed.
Of course 1, 2 and 3 years under the tag do not offer player guarentees. So, if that is what Dak and his agent want, I would not sign him for a 1, 2 or 3 year deal. There is nothing to be gained by the team excpet for risk if Dak get injured. So if that is the sticking point, I can see why Dak wants the short term deal, with guarentees and I can see why the FO doesn't want or need to go there. The only leverage Dak has now is to hold out, which is has been reported he will do.
Four years and up have been discussed enough around here, so I won't go into that.
Eventually the owners will realize that it isn't financially tenable to have QB's receiving 3 big money nearly fully guaranteed contracts in a short timeframe. Using the example I gave with Prescott, he will get 3 big deals in 5 years. Great for the player but man that is tough for team building.
Eventually the owners will begin to treat the QB position like Nick Saban historically does...put a bus driver back there surrounded by a team built around controlling the LOS, running the football and having big play WRs on the outside. It is how Big Ben and Russell Wilson won their initial SBs. Phil Simms, Brad Johnson, all three of Joe Gibbs 'Skins title winning QBs and Flacco won the same way. So it works in the NFL and we all have seen it. It works in college. The QB position should be replaced as soon as they have to get a big contract UNLESS you have Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers or Drew Brees. Kirk Cousins like QBs don't get big contracts if I'm an Owner or GM. They get franchised until I find a young kid to do his job for three to four years. Then rinse, wash, repeat. Trust your scouts and drafting. Period.
It is whispered about in League circles but no one has the guts to do it since their jobs would be on the line. But no one really ridiculed the Skins for not signing Captain Kirk.
Edit: I am aware that my opinion is in the extreme minority and unpopular. I'm fine with that.

I don't think that's as easy as some people think it is. If it were teams would do it all the time and have the kind of offensive success the Cowboys did that year.we can pick up an average guy and let him throw low-risk passes and run Zeke in the ground. hum like 2016?
Agreed, I think the finacials could be worked out between 4-6 years. Those are typical contract lengths. It's been reported the the biggest issue is lenght, so maybe you theory of some below 4 years is the show stopper.I wondered what he wanted. I assumed 4 years max. And assumed JJ wants 6 at least. You would want to think Dak would want some security.
