Quick Opinions about our 2020 Draft Class

This draft has been just like the past 9yrs, great I loved what we did once again another good draft

-I don't think anyone envisioned Lamb dropping to 17, some thought perhaps Ruggs had an outside chance, but the likes of Lamb/Jeudy were more wishful thinking. I can imagine the team running a lot of 3 WR sets, just too talented to keep anyone on the sidelines. On the downside, I think it will take a little time for Lamb and Dak to get on the same page, he is more of like Dez then a Cooper. Will be in tight coverage the majority of time, have to trust he will catch the football.

-Was really worried about the CB position after the team decided not sign a veteran stop gap to replace Bryon Jones. Thought team may of backed themselves in a corner, needing to reach to fill a need, ala the Atlanta Falcons. Not only did they draft a top 5 CB in the class, they double dipped at the position. Kind of reminds me of the Jenkins/Scandrick picks years ago. Team now has 5, talented young CB's. Holdovers better be ready for fierce competition.

-It was a very smart decision to draft Tyler Biadasz, who appeared to be hand picked by MM. They now have a lot of depth within the interior. I wonder if they see McGovern more of a Guard now. Connor Williams could eventually become the team's super utility lineman, having the ability to backup all 5 positions.

-How in the world did the Cowboys land Bradlee Anae at the end of the 5th round. Most saw him as a top 100 pick. No, he didn't test well, nor doesn't possess elite traits, but he has a tremendous track record of production.

With WR Ceedee Lamb
1) i really believe that it was a certain player, certain value and certain WR that had to drop to Cowboys 17th spot to have them pull the trigger on a WR.
it had to be someone that they thought was DeAndre Hopkins like. Maybe there was only two on their board that they thought that way
2) And perhaps that certain WR is seen as a potential (likely?) near future replacement for Amari Cooper after 2 years.- seen as a true lead alpha dog WR that Cooper is still criticized not to be -it's a reason why they placed that year escape option out in Cooper's contract. Hint: you can't make a player have dog in him, he has to have dog in him.. or he's not.
3) Lamb immediately fills both a 3rd WR slot role as well as an immediate punt returner role

With CB Travon Diggs:
- i admit Diggs was not at the top of my CB list, as i was worried about his long speed, maybe the LSU still lingers in my head but what team or CB wasn't sizzled by LSU ? i wish i had the All-22 to see his Clemson '18 title game,..and i'm going back to see his Sooners (vs Lamb, Brown?) and his Auburn tape.

Even pro bowl caliber players like Richard Sherman, Casey Heyward. were average 40 time guys (4.55 area) but they played faster than that on the field because they had great instincts, aggression, ball skills and play speed. That's what i want to see from Digg too.
and Diggs has size, length, physical press aggression ..".and ball skills " ! 3 Ints this year and i believe a TD return.

and i have to keep in mind that he's only been playing starting full time CB for two years, so strong NFL coaching and further game experience at the position
could make him even better at the NFL level. i thought he'd be available in high 2nd rd but he dropped to the middle 2nd.

With Tyler Biadasz (already being nicknamed "Tyler Bad-Azz ")
i think it's matter of great draft value and keen daring to move up to get him in 4th round. And we gave up so little capital to do so. (just two 5th rd picks- 2020 & 20121) ...And Mccarthy himself pushing to get him.

- Was projected as 3rd rd. Maybe the injuries/surgeries may him fall a round later. But he was a Rimington winner and Outland finalist - given to best center in college and finalist in best OL-man in college football...and despite injuries that may have been plaguing him so, i read that he had never missed a game. Very tough and gritty player.
and i'd much rather have a well regarded draftee that actually excelled and made his grade at purely playing center role than a guy that is
being asked to move to center out of dire necessity and probably a better OG than he is a center.
And if Tyler still needs some time to fully mend from his surgeries, we can accommodate that with McGovern/Looney duo until he Tyler does so, without
having to rush him so soon, imo.

With edge rusher Bradlee Anae
- just my own guess work here - maybe Anae didn't test well ,so maybe some teams may have thought he was such an average athlete who was more of an college overachiever, who wont translate such production into a the NFL level.
there will ALWAYS be such players that fall like that in the NFL draft- we see it every single year.
we just have to be the kind of NFL team that evaluates well, and puts together a value board that they stick to it , and can seize those kind of opportunities when
they arise. Several times i've seen where a player that gets a ton of sacks in college that knack can translates into the NFL in some kind of production role or sub-role in the NFL.Maybe Anae will be a Greg Townsend/ type sub-role nickel, rusher guy, .. i will damn well take my chances at that with a late round draft pick.

-I believe Lamb was the only WR that would of selected in rd 1. Not sure where Juedy or Ruggs ranked, but he was 6th on their board.
-Excellent point about the Cowboy's having an out in Cooper's contract after 2 seasons. Long-term they probably cannot keep all three, good problem to have.
-Trevon Diggs fits their CB profile to a tee, long and athletic. Tell you the truth, I was shocked when Seattle passed him a few picks ahead of us. Outside of Dantzler, every top corner struggled covering Chase from LSU. He is going to be a top 5 pick next season.
-Team must of had a 1st rd grade on him as they stated they tried unsuccessfully to trade up for him, fortunately he fell in their laps.
-Diggs is an ascending prospect, has only limited experience, needs a ton of work with his technique, but has everything you want in a corner. Him being a former WR, gives us hope that he will have legitimate ball skills. I have heard the player comparison of Talib a few times with Diggs.

-We just cannot expect Biadasz to become the next Travis Frederick. Frederick never missed a start before his illness and has named an all pro several times at the position. Biadasz has serious injury concerns, recently shoulder surgery and had hip surgery in the past. His best strength is in the run game, but does struggle with power players. He maybe a player we develop first before he can compete to become the starter. If he can stay healthy, has the potential to become a quality starter.

-You will take a pass rusher any chance you get, it's so important in today's game. If Anae is nothing more then a nickel, pass rusher and gives the team 4-6 sacks, it's a slam dunk of a draft pick. A player like him usually fails on this level, but there have been a few that have made an impact. If he has the want to, it will give him a chance to succeed.

.

i'm not sure what you mean by "develop first" ?
If he is sitting out the season, i would think it would be more because he is still on the healing mend with his surgery recovery.
Not because he needs 'development first'
. An Rimington winner and Outland finalist who has never missed a game doesn't need to be red-shirted
or made game inactive or kept on the shelf because he's under-developed, imo. If you value his skill set and ability to anchor, you let him " develop" on the run
as he plays.

and i'm not yet hearing that those post surgeries, should be an extended problem. i would have thought the Cowboys would have already announced that
per post draft conference, unless there are some inconviences per this covid-19 crisis, who knows how the medical reports and media communications are
operating.
