Is Anae somewhat like Vontaze Burfict without the baggage?

Q: What ever happened to the Swiss Army Knife LB we had from Nebraska that was tearing things up last year before getting hurt....is he still in the mix to contribute and/or make the team?

Serious question, Can you teach speed once you make the NFL. I don't mean going from Tony Romo speed to Lightning Bolt speed, I simply mean a "little bit" of speed??

No. But you may be able to help a player diagnose a play faster and speed up his reaction time to a play. That’s what made Sean Lee so effective. He could sniff out a play and it made him be in position to make the play.

If we're relying upon a DT/DE having to chase down a player for 40 yards then we have a whole world of other problems.
Kiper actually said his 40 hurt his draft stock. Crazy stuff. Oh well.

10 yard splits matter for DE's. When was the last time you saw a DE run 40 yards in a straight line (sans pads)?

Anae had no trouble getting production against P5 opponents. Ignore measurables and SPARQ and put on some tape.

If the guy could average 8-10 sacks a season and be a 5th rounder, that's a steal. Let's see how we does.

There is a reason it hurt his draft stock. It obviously mattered to the teams that passed on him as long as they did.

Again, that doesn’t mean he won’t succeed in the NFL, it just doesn’t help his cause.

take it back or I'll go crazy on you
I am crazy already.

Only taken 6 months to become like most here.

I will let you decide what that is.

Someplace b/w intoxicated and rabid.

Your choice. Be sure to chose a category and we will vote on if it fits you or not.

JMO:
Get's manhandled against the run, either by not being able to disengage from blocks, washing himself out of the play or by simply whiffing on the tackle. For a player with the trait of "High motor", he gives up as soon as the play goes away from him. Get's his effort sacks in games, but man, he's going to be a liability outside of clear passing downs. Honest opinion, he only makes the 55-man roster if Gregory/Aldon Smith aren't reinstated.

Now Gallimore...that's a true "high motor" player and has skills.

Sure. I get it.

Just doesnt seem like a reason to flag a rusher, but it worked out on our end. For now anyway.

In my mind, high expectations are fine. This kid was productive every year of college. He will be productive in the pros, to some degree. Won’t surprise me one bit if he is in the rotation or even starting game one. There are late round selections who are raw, who don’t have technique or strength, and there are late round guys, like Greg Hardy for one, who tear it up right away because they know how to play and have already been productive, but dropped because they didn’t measure up with speed or other measurables.

I’ll take production in in college over lack of production but great measurables any day. This is why players at every position, even those for which we prefer speed, are successful every year as late rounders or even undrafted free agents.

2-3 sacks in the senior bowl and dominating practices is nothing to sneeze at.

I expect, at a minimum, he will be more effective than Taco.

The closest player comp I can give you for Anae is Lawrence Taylor.

Luke Gifford.

Yes, we will unleash him on the league in the fall.

Exactly who I thought of.
Elite collegiate pass rush production but was let down by being a tad undersized mixed with a terrible 40 time.

Baltimore drafted him in R1 and he was fine if not elite for a very long time for them.

You can definitely cross out "fine". Suggs is a future Hall of Famer. He was the guy I wanted over Newman. Suggs was not only a perennial star, he made many big postseason plays as well. If Anae can be anything close to Suggs, we've struck gold.

Vontaze Burfict is a psychopath that has no off switch for when the play is over. And uses poor judgement during the play. I hope Anae is nothing like that.
