He didn't say that he didn't care what number he had. He said he wanted 10. How is this even up for discussion? He clearly had a preference and it wasn't 88.
And please, spare us the idea that Jerry "didn't think about it". If Jerry is so naive to the idea that players have favorite or preferred numbers after 30+ years of ownership, he's easily the dumbest person on the planet. Kids that play in youth sports have number preferences. High school players have number preferences. College players have number preferences. Are we really supposed to believe that the moment a player is drafted they no longer care what number they wear?
He said he wanted 10. Would it have been impossible to just let him pick his own number? Suppose he wanted 10 now and in 2 weeks he wants 88. Was there some sort of time limit on the availability of 88? Let him pick his number and if he picks 88 then he picks 88. If he picks something else, he picks something else.
Why does Jerry have to be involved here? Regardless of how committed he was to any number, why force him to wear a specific number?
I didn't say he said he didn't care, I said we don't know that he cares to any real degree. Having said #10 doesn't mean
#10 is important to him. He may have just figured he would have to pick something because his college # wasn't available, and he picked #10.
And I didn't say Jerry had to be involved, nor that Jerry couldn't have just let him pick that number. I just said it may not have played out the way you and others want to portray it. Again, for all we know, when Jerry realized Lamb had told the media about
#10 he may have offered to let Lamb go with #10, but Lamb decided he was okay with honoring Jerry's friend. If you are honest you will acknowledge that you don't know how this played out
And on the number, you need to slow down and read what you responded to. In no way did I suggest Jerry wouldn't understand players have number preferences, but the number preference Lamb had shown was #2, not #10. That was my point. It's not far fetched to think Jerry may not have realized Lamb had a backup.
And, again, I would bet dollars to donuts that the little soap opera scenario fans are creating in this thread bears no resemblance to how it actually did play out. It's laughable that fans think this is such a major issue. Maybe it's the stay at home Covid-19 Blues that are to blame.
