1992 NFC CHAMPIONSHIP game against San Francisco. I have never been that nervous when Aikman trotted out on the field and there was a little over 4 minutes left and we were up by 4. I was praying we would just run the ball and eat up the clock but Jimmy wanted to score. For some reason I didn't want that ball in the air but they did it anyway and Harper was off to the races. This is my all time favorite play in Cowboys history........

Has to be Staubach to Pearson Hail Mary.

Ain't no question.

Have to mention as runner up Ken Norton stuffing Kenneth Davis the goal line first Buffalo SB.
Great one. Norton is one of my favorite players from that era. Out of all the guys we lost to FA after '93, he was the guy I regretted losing the most.

I was an infant/toddler when Johnson was our coach, but the more I watch and read about him, the more it's clear to me that he's a complicated, beautiful man. What a great play that was. Always a great sight to see Alvin running down that sideline.

Unfortunately most of my Cowboys memories are awful like my hometown Panthers eliminating us from the playoffs twice, Romo bobbling the special teams snap, Patrick Crayton stuttering on his route, Brett Favre finally owning us in the playoffs at age 100, the Matt Flynn debacle, Demarco Murray's playoff fumble, the Dez catch, and Aaron Rodgers converting on 3rd and 20 with the season on the line.

But a few plays I often look back on and smile were Zeke's run against the Steelers in 2016, Kyle Wilber jumping on that special teams fumble against Minnesota on TNF in 2016, Emmitt breaking the rushing record against Seattle, and Dak's run to the goal line against Seattle in 2018. Sigh.

I was in Air Force basic training in my barracks watching the Hail Mary game with 49 other men, many from New York and Minnesota.

They were harrassing me bigtime just before the pass, calling the Cowboys losers, Texans queers, etc.

When Drew ran in Rogers bomb in the last seconds you could hear a pin drop until my brain digested what just happened. Then I screamed.

The Vikings were hands down the best team that season and the Cowboys beat them with 12 rookies contributing.

.....the best play hands down.

Not mention yet:

Romo to Beasley in the back of the endzone, to beat the Giants.

Roy Williams' interception for a touchdown to beat the Eagles.

Is it just me or did Pearson not get his feet down in bounds on that 4th and 17 play just before the Hail Mary?
Don’t think he did, but that was back when they ruled it was complete IF, in the judgement of the official, the receiver would’ve come down in bounds had he not been forced out by the defender. Pearson is hit in the back while in the inbounds in the air and forced out. I’m glad they eliminated that so it’s now black and white and not open to an official’s judgement.

Romo escapes Watt, bombs to Terrance.

Honorable mention: Marion Barber's 3 yard run vs Pats.

Lilly sack of Griese in SB 6. It rid the label of "next years champions" permanently.
As great as these other plays were, if you weren't an "old timer," you didn't know how big that Lily sack of Griese in the Super Bowl was.

The Hail Mary was just that. Luck. But in the Super Bowl, Dallas had dominated the game but hadn't scored a lot and we old timers were just waiting for the "screw up" moment, like when the ball Craig Morton threw in SB V was intercepted, or when the Earl Morrall pass went off one Colt's hands and into the hands of another Colt for a TD.

Then came Lily. That play more than any other in Cowboys' history turned the entire narrative. Griese could have thrown it away. He could have taken a 5 yard sack. But instead, he thought he could outrun or outsmart Lily and (Pugh or Andre?). Anyway, they herded him, and after that play, there was no doubt in my mind that the Cowboys would win. The bad luck was now on someone else.

This should be a fun thread. I'm not going to participate any more than just to read all the posts.

To old farts like me, there have been so many it would be impossible to name my top 10!

I will say that winning the first Super Bowl in team history was full of great plays I will never forget.
This is me. I started watching the Cowboys in 1964. I’ve seen every Cowboys playoff game they’ve ever played (on TV) There are so many great plays that it would be too many to list.

I wish our younger fans could have experienced how great this team was in the 70s. We won 14 playoff games in the 70s, including 5 NFC championships and two SBs. Most fans remember the 90s, when we great too, winning 10 playoff games and 3 SBs. But those 70s teams were dominant longer.

And astoundingly Dallas did it for a couple of years without a genuine star RB: they traded Duane Thomas, Calvin Hill had already blown his knee out & signed with the USFL, drafted Bill Thomas (a bust), had Doug Denison, had Robert Newhouse who was an ok #2 but not an NFL star runner, and got Preston Pearson, who was a good receiving back but not a #1 rusher. Even when they got Dorsett, Newhouse was blocking for him, and Newhouse was not a great lead blocker like Johnston. The D carried us after the 1972 season.
