I can think of a team that would probably pay Dak more than THAT!!! Them sorry *** Commanders. They would do that JUST to rub it in our faces and Dak is probably better than any QB they've had since their Super Bowl years.

Hot take gonna hot take.

I'm not the biggest Prescott fan in the world, but Myers' take is stupid. Whether any of us think that Prescott is actually worth $30M per season is irrelevant. Players get paid by what the market dictates the worth is, not on what our opinions are. Me? I wouldn't pay him more than $25M, but I'm not cutting the check. Prescott will get something in the $35M range when it's all said and done.

Gary Myers used to be a terrific NFL writer. Over the last 10 or more years, he descended into hackdom, and now doesn't have a regular writing outlet. His book, The Catch, is one of the worst books about the Cowboys that I have ever read. He went from being a somewhat objective writer to a Giant cheerleader in his columns. And, even more hilarious, he drops this hot take, and then responds that Cowboy fans are blowing up his timeline. Derp de Derp.

Gary Myers here in NY has always been a Cowboy hater. Like Dak or not, he certainly be very attractive on the open market and command 30 million a season. That is was the market dicates at this juncture. Hell, Cousins signed an extension for even more then that annual number.

You got to love the NY Media, they flat out said that the Giant job was more attractive cause they have a real franchise QB. Why did MM turn them down? Didn't the Giants win just 4 games? I don't want to hear about them having a bad defense. Dak in his rookie year lead the team to the playoffs and went head to head against Rodgers in the playoffs. Has Jones played under any pressure to win? Please....
What's worse is the guy use to write for the Dallas Morning News.

In 2019 Dak was just 2 yards away from breaking the Cowboys all-time record for passing yards in a season...

Either Dak is great or Jason Garrett was a great Head Coach with a great offensive scheme.

Considering Dak's accomplishments, if he only has average talent, the Garrett had to have been super awesome.

In reality Dak has had great accomplishments with a HC and offensive scheme that should only be in middle school, not in the NFL
I agree with your points in general but the truth is that Dak needs weapons and paying him what he is asking is the surest way to ensure that we won't be able to afford any more retooling. If he couldn't win with the tools and defense that we already had how will he win being paid so much that we have to jettison anyone with larger contracts (more talent)?

How? So Andy Dalton is good now? Better than Dak? So good that Joe Burrow was just taken #1 overall?
I would never say that Dalton is a long term solution or should start over Dak

I will say that having a legit NFL starting caliber QB on board does ease the pressure to completely cave in to any and all Dak contract demands just a little bit.

I wouldn’t even call it leverage. It just lessens the possibility of a panic bend-over from the front office.

They may still very well do something dumb and give Dak 36/4 but at least they know, in the back of their minds, the backup plan is a “B” or “C” grade as opposed to the “F” that would result for a season where Rush ends up being the starter for an extended period of time

he was in the league for 10 years...… you expect Dak to have gone to the playoffs 5 times in 4 years? Dak has played in 3 playoff games..... if not for incompetent coaching should have beat GB and be better prepared for Rams....

its not about getting to playoffs, its about winning in playoffs. Dalton hasn't come close at all...failure after failure, after failure, after failure after failure
That's right, I forgot how the Bengals are known for their competent coaching.

Tannehill got a truckload because he has done something Dak hasnt done yet. Take his team to the AFC Championship game

Jags wouldnt do it because they are re-building
Does your phone autocorrect “Henry” to “Tannehill”?

What's worse is the guy use to write for the Dallas Morning News.

I actually used to work for HBO Sports, in which he was working as an insider on their Inside the NFL Show. He has an history of being a long-term Cowboy Hater. Perhaps, something happened in Dallas. I do know he has been writing for the NY Daily News for many years. Most people in the city, who still buy the paper reads the NY Post. I guess he's playing the ESPN Card, to try to get people to read his articles.

surprised Jerry did not let dak test the market . I doubt any team will pay dak the 40 million he wants . I think jerry and stephen were being very respectful and treated Dak like family and offered him 35 million , which i think is more than generous.
Testing the market would have been best for all parties.

I don’t care who the Qb is. I just want one that can make us a Championship caliber team again.

Dude I want Dak to sign (for an amount that doesn’t hamstring the team). I like Dak, don’t love him.

I don’t necessarily mean you. I mean the others who hilariously think that the cowboys should just not sit Dak and use Dalton as a starter. Which is preposterous.

I want Dak for the most team friendly deal possible too.

I also think Dalton is a great signing as a backup. But if he had to start all season...... no thank you.

I could see the Jags, maybe a nother team that felt they were a QB away like Denver. If someone gave Tannehill a truckload Dak would get it. Doesn't make it smart it is just what it is right now. Honestly Dalton wouldn't be all that much of a downgrade.

Yep.

We basically signed a similar QB to Dak. They finally gave themselves a little leverage and if Dalton has to play then we be fine.
