So, you’re changing your position or you are saying you want DiNucci as our backup.

if it’s the latter, then you are essentially saying you’re willing to go through the season with a 7th round small school draft pick as our QB2

You keep dancing around the fact that we all agree going with DiNucci as QB2 is wrong but you want him to still be QB2 on the off chance that 2-3 years from now, with QB2 reps all the way, he will be better than Dak.

You can’t have him be QB2 and a pure developmental prospect unless you are willing to say QB2 isn’t actually a true backup.
Not sure I can make it clearer, but will try. Yes, I would rather have a 7th rounder as QB2 than Dalton. We won’t win crap with either but the cost would be lower with DiNucci and he can possibly develop into something more in the future. I would rather give him an opportunity to sink or swim like Dak had to do in 2016 than to go through Weeden and Cassel type “experienced” back up QBs like we did in 2015.

Hey, so did the Cowboys and our coaching sucked as well. We couldn't do much worse that play some games with Dalton. It's for sure he isn't costing us 33mil.

The coaching most certainly sucked here. I agree, we can get the same results for 30 million cheaper! But comparing playoff wins at this point is ridiculous.

I noticed you didn't actually answer the OP's question. I'll guess this is why:

257 yards, 0 TDs, 3 INTs, loss
127 yards (46% completions), 0 TDs, 1 INT, loss
334 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs, loss
155 yards, 0 TDs, 0 INTs, loss
He was injured and missed the 5th loss.

1 TD, 6 INTs, zero wins

We all know the point. Dalton isn't great...neither is Dak and Dalton isn't costing us 34mil per season. Sorry, but the smart play is to use Dalton up until we get a legit
franchise QB ala Brees or Brady to take us to a SB again. Dak isn't the one and we shouldn't pay him his money.

If you weren’t happy with Dak and his low salary, why would you settle for Dalton and his low salary?

It's too late now to do anything about a SB type QB for this season. Dak or Dalton aren't going to get us to a championship game with their skillsets so we just have to get
some picks for Dak and solder on until that diamond QB is unearthed. Jerry is foolish if he pays Dak for any more that this year and then lets him test his market value
next year.

That’s how I feel about Dalton and DiNucci for back up. Can’t win with either one this year so why waste money on Dalton. Don’t need to throw away 3-7 million on him, but can understand the rational if you just want to dump salary as long as you aren’t defending the crappy QB play when people complain Dalton sucks.

In 2019 Dak was 2 yards away from breaking the Cowboys all-time record for passing yards in season.

Yep, and he still couldn't win the big game or get the boys into the playoffs. Nope, I guess stats don't get you into the dance.

Dalton is just getting tip money. Rush is covering most of his upfront. No way I would pay Dak 34mil so I would resend the tag and let him eat cake. Dalton is just like Foles and maybe we'll get one last hurrah out of him. Dak, if we pay him, is sunk money. He was a late round draft choice for a reason just like Romo was undrafted.

Matt Moore quote possibly saved the Chiefs season last year. It’s unlikely they win the Super Bowl if they followed your strategy.

Backup QB has been called the 12th offensive starter. It’s an important position. You obviously don’t value the role and I think you’re not alone.

Dak is ridiculously durable but he’s not bullet proof.

We have a veteran team trying to compete for the Super Bowl. Give me a competent, veteran backup over a 7th round rookie any day of the week.

Dreaming of a generation-from-now version of the Cowboys after it burns down and is rebuilt is fun for message board dreaming but it’s just that. A dream. It has no place in a serious football discussion for a contending team.

Now, if you feel the team is a lost cause, right now, in 2020, and we should blow it up and start over, that’s another conversation.

Make this man the GM. He can go find Brees or Brady, no problem.

Hey, LittleD, while you’re at the Hall of Fame Store would you mind picking up a few other items?

Just get as many of these as you can
  • Lawrence Taylor
  • Mike Webster
  • Tony Gonzalez
Those are definitely positions that can help us right away

Also, if you see any of these and you have room in your basket, one of each would be great
  • Deion Sanders
  • Ed Reed
  • Deacon Jones
We also might not be 100% with McCarthy either, so swing by Boston and pick up a coach.
This one will be fine
  • Bill Belichick

Trash is too harsh, capable would be a better word.
The dude has played in 4 playoff games. The offense didn’t score more than 10 points in either game. The one time the Bengals scored 13 points, the defense scored the TD.

He has as many pick sixes as TD passes (1 each). He has 6 interceptions and 2 fumbles lost. (4 fumbles total).

The dude is terrible.

As for the Red Pistol Fan Club....BTW....a great insurance move. But isn't this really about...."If you outperform your contract, how dare you ask for more money?"

Dalton is the only quarterback to lead the Bengals to five consecutive playoff berths, and one of five quarterbacks to lead his team to the playoffs in each of his first five seasons.
With bad teams and bad coaching.

Sounds strangely like Romo and Dak..

minus the 5 playoff runs.

You're not going to sign Patrick Mahommes in the offseason. Dalton was the best QB available to come in and be a backup. He's the best backup this team has had since Kyle Orton or Jon Kitna (excepting the year Romo was a backup). Dalton provides quality QB play if Dak goes down, or if Dak stubbornly refuses to sign for his genuine, non-inflated value. This signing was a good move.
