You guys want Dalton to start anyways. 1st missed throw...bench Dak, start Andy. The hate for Dak will only grow. I hope he holds out.

  • Who knows how this is going to affect the league financially a year from now. I read tweet Friday that implied it not impossible to think this thing could force the league to cut the salary cap for the first time ever. If that happens, the currents offer goes away.....fast.
  • League office is laying off employees. Hell, even the Goodell has voluntarily slashed his salary from $44M to 0.
  • He could himself quarantined for reasons we know but can't discuss here.

I think the original problem was just a difference of opinion over the future payscale. With the league finances also in question, that's just more uncertainty. There's also uncertainty for McCarthy about Dak. For Dak about McCarthy.

The increased health risk for Dak this year is quite small, and probably insured against.

Last year, Dak was content to let it ride and see what he could bargain for this year. This year, it's even easier to let it ride, as now he can lock in his franchise tag money. The only reason I can see not to do it is to increase pressure on Jerry to keep upping his offers. But it doesn't matter if Dak really doesn't expect sign any long term offer Jerry gives

Just sign the tag. Lock in money for this year. Get to work. And negotiate again next year when a lot of the uncertainty is resolved all the way around, and you have *greater* leverage with Jerry facing the 120% franchise tag.

Started every single game from the moment he arrived as a rookie draft pick.

Broke the record for attempts before his first INT.... Previously held by Brady.

Slightly shy of 16000 yards passing and 100 TD's

14 game winning drives in the regular season, another in the playoffs

95.7 combined passer rating in the playoffs.

65.8% completion rate

Two pro bowl selections in his first four seasons

Double scoring threat and fearless runner with the ball

And yet.......

For 4 years he has watched far lesser QB's earn 10 times more than him because the NFL tragically misevaluated his leadership, heart, and drive.

And his reaction?

Not a peep, complete gentleman, choosed to focus on his game.

Memo to fans:

He is not the bad guy. He has earned the right to negotiate what he considers to be a fair contract reflecting his future value to an NFL team.

In all fairness, he has been an absolute bargain for four years, give him the dam money now.

Let me first say I'm a Dak fan.....heart and soul. But if the current offer pays him Goff money or more, he playing a dangerous game for many reasons.

  • This isn't the same country it was at the end of the season. The economy is tanking, we are facing record-breaking unemployment. The last thing fans/media wanna see is a disgruntling player arguing over whether or not to accept a contract paying him $33-34M vs $35-37M.

  • He could himself quarantined for reasons we know but can't discuss here.
  • Finally, DO NOT underestimate the signing of Dalton. He appears to everything a team in leadership, work ethic and as noted in the tweet below, he's damn excited to be here. No, he hasn't played at Dak's level over the last few years but there's no reason to think you can't win with him.
  • What if he decides to play on the tag rather than accepting the current offer and injury forces him the miss several games and Dalton lights it up? Now we have a real mess (LOL).
  • Yes, we have heard Stephen and Jerry say over and over again, Dak's the guy. But did we not hear Romo was the guy also before the start of the 2016 season. My point is strange things can happen but if all reports are true, Daks has a good offer on the table. Maybe not exactly what he had hoped but good enough NOT to be moaning over a few million bucks, especially with the direction the economy is headed.
SIGN THE CONTRACT NOW DAK!!!!!

Let's not kid ourselves here as there is no contract on its way for Dak.
He has the tag for now unless its rescinded and one last opportunity to keep his job.
Hold a small Dak basket as he will fall on his face and blow it!!!!

I agree things have changed, and now isnt a good time for a contract situation like this one. Bad luck or timing for Dak.
I wonder why many fans like you would feel better if dak was signed right now as opposed to a month or 2 from now .
It makes no difference, as long as he shows up to TC and plays this season, on the tag or with contract.

Dak isnt going to sign a contract he doesnt like, and the problem is the years, not the money.
If the jones boys dont cave and offer a shorter contract, then dak will probably play on the tag.
Signing Dalton means he better play, and not hold out . He could have been planning on holding out x # of games,
but now maybe not.
Dont worry about it, it looks like MM is prepared whether dak plays or not.

LOL .....Oh I know. Just the dynamics of the league and country have changed quite a bit.
I appreciate your passion Hawkeye. I think Dak and his agent will come around. It is not just about the money and or the term of the contract now, but this massive upgraded team that Dak get's to lead backed by superior coaching.

Interesting point, makes me wonder how much that figures into the equation, if at all.

If Andy takes the reins and does well, Dak may be sucking wind instead of quan. No other team is going to pay him that much money. Winners of big games
get paid...losers go begging.

It may be the market, but there still has to be demand. Right now I think every other team in the league has a quarterback ready to go. It's part of the reason Cam Newton doesn't have a job right now. Teams are looking for low priced backups, not high priced starters.

The one thing I can't understand is why do people care when he gets signed? I can understand curiosity, but some people's need for this information almost seems unhealthy.

Just something else for the Dak trolls to complain about. Now that Dak has blown away any predictions they had on how good he is, they resort to complaining about a contract he hasn't signed yet.

The clowns didn't like him at 500k per year so why would they like him at 33 million.

Based on what?

Dak and his agent's contract demands are more than the Jones' are willing to sign him for.

This is obvious or it would have been done by now.

These demands are not going to go down either in time...only up.

My 2 cents of the whole Dak Contract situation:

-Once Dak hired France has his agent, the organization knew it's going to be a challenge to sign their QB. France is an agent who won't stop at nothing unless his client sets the market. It is quite possible a deal never gets done, unless Dak uses another agent.

-I think the front office has sent messages to Dak's camp, with first the leaked Jalen Hurts interview and now the signing of Andy Dalton.

-Stephen is running the team, manages the cap and won't mess up the team's cap flexibility for one player, even the QB.

-With the signing of Dalton, the Cowboys have all the leverage now. If Dak decides to holdout, they have a legitimate replacement for him

Do you know what the demands are? Its public knowledge.

Are you familiar with how a "negotiation" works? Do you understand timing and pressure to get something done?
