This year's deal has nothing to do with anything. Everyone knows he is a starting QB in the NFL and if he hits free agency on day 1 and teams that need a QB get a chance to evaluate the market and make decisions during the offseason knowing he will be a free agent, he will get decent starting QB money somewhere. His deal this year is not his market value and I think everyone would agree with that. He settled for it because it's late in free agency and he has a home in Dallas and didn't want to move his family during these uncertain times. He himself has stated this and is looking to spent the year here with MM and seek a starting job for the 2nd half of his career next year. Those are his words. Personally, I think he will get a deal somewhere between $18-24 million per year. He fits well with the QBs getting that kind of money.

No pick this year for the Bengals as they cut him, and he was signed after the deadline to get comp picks.
But as he becomes a FA in 2021, we all get a comp pick if he signs in the 1st wave of FA period.

Since he is unlikely to sign a large contract, it's doubtful that they get anything, but in theory it is possible.

Even backup QBs can make real money, and someone might sign him as a starter. I expect we get a 5 or higher.

There is almost 0 chance this will happen. The only way it does is if Dak gets hurt. The odds of Dalton playing enough games that a team thinks he can be there franchise guy are beyond slim, especially considering he'd have to actually play well and keeping in mind that he turns 34 in October 21. More likely he turns into a McCown.

Like I said, we will see. There were 5 teams trying to sign him and he will be sought after again when free agency starts next year. When Dallas is on the clock late on day two in the 2022 draft with the comp pick for losing Dalton, I'll be sure to remind you of this.

The OP is asking about us getting a comp pick in the 2022 draft (for players that leave after 2021) and considering Dalton won't be cut, the determining factors will be how many free agents we signed/lost and how much Dalton is signed for. Also think it's unlikely Dalton signs a large enough deal to get us a high draft pick.

The fact that Dalton was cut, means we don't get penalized for signing him, however we signed him after the window for free agents to count towards the 2021 equation closed.

Andy Dalton will increase in contract amounts following his time in Dallas. This will increase the level he counts for a compensational pick...and round values involved.
