Yes, but I do have to say that Jerry has made a few good decisions as well.. Think of Jimmy Johnson, Parcells and now Big Mike.
In the video, Holley also goes on to explain how Jerry really did believe in Jason and obviously wanted things to work out with him as our coach.

Jerry definitely made a ton of mistakes with Garrett and he knows is at this point, but has moved on... The culture issue that the cowboys have faced
does get put on Jerry Jones because he allowed Garrett to exist as our coach.. No doubt it came down to Jones's pride which is definitely a character flaw.

Can you make your sig pictures larger please? I can;t see them.

funny all these guys that have been cut talk like this, yet . Lee says he made him a better player than he thought he could be,Heath said he appreciated the way he coaches the team, and Lewis who couldn't get playing time said he Loves the guy the guy to death. then you have this from Aikman saying players are going to miss him. and for the record I said the same thing Aikman is saying especially the 1 voice

Most.

Some still haven't gotten the memo.

:lmao:

I didn't watch the whole video but after Holley started talking I couldn't stop watching.. I finally turned it off after about 45 minutes. I think Holley is telling it how it is, and has no reason not to.. I think it was gripping that he was so unfiltered! Guys allude to things about Garrett all the time, but Holley spelled out things in a way that no one here ever has. He actually used analogies to explain his thought process which I appreciated.

I don't think Jesse was malicious at all, to me it seemed he was just speaking facts and his truth from experiences. He thinks very very highly of Big Mike as a coach.

lol.........like Jesse stated. Garrett was a good man. He helped some players and people along the way but he never grew as a leader. it happens in all walks of life.. It is Jerry's fault. He held onto Garrett 7 seasons too long. We are going to miss the discipline Mon-Thur but game day blah!!!

None of this is new from Holley. He’s made these same points, my times. Put him with TO and the handful of other guys who didn’t like Jason. Ten years, 53 guys per year. The fact that you only hear complaints from cancers and fringe roster players is pretty telling.

I'll have to give it some sort of listen (unless someone does a transcript!)

Trust me, it's worth your time to listen! It really made me feel good about our future moving forward having heard just how unqualified Garrett was in his tenure put in that context. Like I said, it's the most candid I've heard someone in the know talking about Garrett.

The typical excuse.

Eh. It's those people. The ones he could not reach with his Landry-esque qualities.

They will find out soon about the genius that is Jason Garrett. Which explains why he is a plotting back-stabber in New York versus a head coach some place else.

Ooooooohh......oooohhhhh Jesse Holley. Won a reality tv show to get the 80th spot and a rookie contract with the Cowboys. Wasn't all surprising with TO gone and Irvin's backing.

And what an amazing career! Two years, 7 receptions, 169 yds, 0 TDs. Two punt returns for 17 yds.

He had more dirt on Garrett, than TDs! He had more dirt on Garrett than the law allows and was dropped after an illustrious two year career. Sounds like someone who would say anything to get a spotlight.
Amen. Holley is no expert other than winning a reality show. He’s a shock jock.

Scandrick who goes after everyone said he had nothing bad to say about Garrett and that’s surprising given how long he knew him and that the defense never was able to perform. Surprised he didn’t blame Garrett for not wanting to invest in better personnel or more aggressive schemes

Yes, but many don't really understand the extent of the dysfunction. There are still tons of guys on this forum that blame the players and don't give Garrett enough credit for the failures of our team as a whole. All I'm saying is that Holley really spelled everything out in a way that I've seen no one on here do. He breaks stuff down very candidly.
I take a grain of salt on all this.

I suspected the players were not giving it their all at times.

One week uber and the next flatline.

I really think at some point if you think the leadership suspect..

You just talk amongst yourselves and take it into your collective hands and see it thru.

To blame Garrett as a weak coach and therefore failure ensues..poppycock.

We all know Jerrah interfered repeatedly causing failure after failure.

This team including last year, did not have the guts to beat good teams. They went thru the motions for years under Garrett.

Never would have happened with Jimmy or Parcells.

Just my belief.

Holley begins talking about Jason Garrett at the 18:54 mark.

Highlights:
- When you can stand on the sidelines and the defense can tell you what route is coming, that's saying something.
- Loves him as a man didn't like him as a coach because he went to Princeton and always thought he was the smartest man in the room. He didn't allow for others to add input and creativity. Garrett was like "I'm the chef don't touch my pot." Everything with him was so bland and mundane. He never got off of that because that's who he was as a coach.
- Jason never evolved as a coach and as a play caller.
- Jason will focus on the running game in NY and building the backside of the defense, i.e., corners and safety.
- Garrett was trying to box players into schemes. That's why linebackers couldn't cover running backs (basically players were out of position).
- McCarthy is for player rather than scheme. That's what Jimmy Johnson did, put players where they're going to be successful.
- McCarthy says every man will be accountable. Accountable to the organization and the men they play next to. That accountability will start with the coach down. Contrasts this with Garrett, who never held anyone accountable. He (Garrett) said we just have to do better. The team has to do better. The player has to do better. Under Garrett, there was no accountability. And guys knew it. (See johneric8's information about Alpha Male) You had guys who would walk into the building knowing no matter what they did they knew "I'm the starting (whatever position) and I'm not losing my position." And the head coach, Garrett, wasn't going to do anything. You will not see that with McCarthy. You will see competition across the board, not just for the year, but for each week. And if you can't do it the way they ask you do it, to the best of your ability, goodbye whoever the player is. (Not getting cut but losing your starting position.)
- Players weren't feeling Trystan Hill.
- Everybody was trying to capitalize on their own brand (maybe a reference to, cough, cough Jaylon Smith).
- Not enough guys who had personal pride. We're losing this game? We'll be uptown at 9 o'clock. Nobody made them pay for the lack of personal pride.
- Players knew Garrett wasn't going to be with the team the next year, so they didn't really pay any attention to him. "He's not going to be here next year."

If McCarthy is able to change this culture, this team should EASILY win the NFC East. This team, with all this talent, underachieved ROYALLY!

But most of us knew this already.

The fact that he was only with Garrett as head coach for his first 1 1/2 years minimizes his comments though. An opinion based on 1 1/2 years with a guy that wasn't giving you the playing time you wanted isn't really an objective opinion on Garrett's career. I also believe his opinion is minimized by the fact that far and away most players at least say they respect Garrett as a person even if they feel he fell short as a coach. There is also a question of whether he is exaggerating somewhat to help sell his radio show. The more soap opera he can surround that with, the more attention his show will get.

Before anyone starts the silly "Garrett Lover" nonsense, I was fully on board with letting him walk, and had been for a couple of years. But this all we know Holly's comments to be based on is a personality conflict, which naturally will happen in the NFL, as it does with all other occupations, and with limited exposure to Garrett as a head coach, and possibly some ulterior motives.

Exactly, Garrett deserved to be fired but the guys who played on the team for years never say stuff like this. I don't watch the DFW media but I believe Holley has said shock job things before.

Its not hard to say Garrett was up and down but slightly above average when you average out his performance over ten years. There are very few NFL head coaches that are all good or all bad.
