My one and only Dak contract thread, since we don't have enough here. When will OTAs start!!!

Maybe the FO is just sick of Todd France. They know if they sign Dak to a shorter contract they will have to deal with this guy again soon. Somewhere in the back of my mind I think there were a few players in the past that were either FA, or players we didn't resign because the FO did not get along with the agent and just didn't want to work with them.

Could this be the case here?

This is kinda what I've been trying to say for awhile. The Cowboys know France and CAA. They have dealt with them for awhile now. It's not like the Cowboys don't know how this will work. I believe they have a much better understanding then many of us may think. JMO

I think France's issue is that he arrogantly is trying to get a team to overpay for his guy.

France represents Aaron Donald, Fletcher Cox, and DeAndre Hopkins and all three of those guys got big pay days with no pushback. Because they're elite.

I like Dak, but he isn't elite, so there is some discussion. That all being said, the Jones boys will eventually cave to their demands and strangle our cap space for years to come. It's what they do.

Jones’s will eventually cave to all of their demands because at the end of the day Dak is great for their business and will keep us relevant in the media.
Both will be compromising.
None of us really knows who had a starting point that they knew was further away from what they'd settle for than the other.
Jerry will always allow it to appear that he has compromised, yet may end up exactly where he expected to be in the first place....or even better.

Getting Prescott to the highest paid at his position, albeit temporarily, will be a bigger feather in his cap and be more of an attention getter for other athletes.

They're not tired of dealing with France, it's not like they talk every day. He's doing exactly what any good agent would do with all of the leverage and time on his side. The Cowboys are blinkers, every agent in the business knows that. He's holding his ground because he knows they don't have much to stand on. This is exactly where they didn't want to be, going back to last season, and exactly where CAA wanted them. France isn't negotiating any longer, he's just waiting for them to crater.

I think the guy has gotten inside of Dak’s head. Dak seems like a good guy but he has to know he is not in the Mahomes - Wilson category. Those guys are elite players. Dak is a very good player in a great situation. I think the rumored Dallas offer is fair. If Dak doesn’t take it screw him and his agent.

Call me a fool but have a feeling that the Jones clan will not spill the milk on this one.
No big payday for Prescott as he simply hasn't shown he is worth it......
Again many here are underestimating the Dalton signing and the message it sends to the Dak camp!

There is no reason for either side to do anything but wait for the July 15 deadline to see if something changes the landscape.

France is doing what will be financially best for his client. Whether or not one likes it depends on what side of the fence you're standing. It won't coat me as penny.

The Andy acquisition very well could've saved this negotiation. Especially if he's plugged in all off-season and learns this new offense while Dak is making business decisions.

In the end, all lose except for the lawyer (France) who gets paid and shows he can get the biggest payday for his client.
Jones lose because they aren't really any closer to the Superbowl and are out more money now while not allowing them to get closer by signing others.
Dak loses because although he got paid, his fandom and the business guys who wanted him, don't want to deal with his lawyer either.
The fans lose because they have the 6-10 best QB getting paid like he is top 5 and not getting them any closer to winning the Superbowl, but still needing to pay a little more for tickets, drinks, parking, merchandise etc because of the contract.
The team loses because they don't have the cap #'s to sign the guys they really need now.

Seems like normal around Cowboy country here lately........a whole lot of losing.

Wonder if they would ever think of just doing contracts @ a % of cap, and add bonuses based upon actual play...........................oops, that would cut out the lawyers who get paid based upon the contract.

I still say its monumentally stupid for Prescott to not get all he can right now, but rather to choose to try to cash in again on the wrong side of 30, quite possibly after not having won in eight seasons with a ton of talent around him.

If I'm Jerry I'm doing backflips at the idea that this guy wants to bet on himself.

If he wins, so does Jerry. If he doesnt, you get to cut bait in three years without killing your cap.

I'm failing to see the issue....other than theres nothing going on team wise so why write a 50m plus check today.

Yep.
It's his job to max out his client.
He has zero rooting interest in the Cowboys or if it helps them long term or not.

It was great move for the Cowboys, either way.
Great backup at a reasonable price, plus some (albeit, limited) leverage.
