Not realistic. Trading up and controlling a high caliber pass rusher is more likely.
It would be nice to hit on one for a change.

Nah thomas ran him past the qbs face once and ran him around the other time. Not pressures. Its ok, glad we didnt draft him now i can watch him struggle on another team
Marinelli Scheme
- Crawford started by far the most games at RDE of any player in the Marinelli era.
- The 2nd half of 2018 combination of Crawford as the base RDE and Gregory as the pass rushing RDE was good.
Mike Nolan Scheme
- There will be different requirements with the new scheme.
- The way Anae played in college was very similar to how Nolan has played edge rushers in the past (i.e. Hybrid DE/LB).
- With Nolan's multiple front, bigger guys like Joe Jackson might play a role more similar to a 3-4 DE while Anae and Gregory (if reinstated) might be more of the 4-3 DE / 3-4 OLB type player.
- In the past Aldon Smith would have been in the hybrid DE/LB role; however, now he might be in the 3-4/4-3 DE hybrid role.
I was not sold on Chaisson. He might be really good but it's a big risk.
Seems to me that the Cowboys have made bad decisions at the RDE spot for years. And to make up for those mistakes, they've taken character risks and gotten burned again and again. In between, it's been a myriad of patches and quick fixes. But when great options have presented themselves, (Danielle Hunter, TJ Watt), the Cowboys made the wrong choice and drafted guys like Gregory and Taco Charlton instead.
They've been poor in their evaluations there.
Thankfully Rod is history.
The Giants at the end of the Strahan era come close.I can't think of few teams that have two highly paid defensive ends. And even fewer SUCCESSFUL teams that do.
Jerry still thinks he drafted Johnny Manzel. You people ignore him 99% of the time until its convenient to do otherwise. Now you have added BS to your assumption repertoire? Keep going! Impress me.It is a fact, Jerry Jones stated it after the draft.

The history of the team has always been spotty at RDE.The right defensive end position seems to be a revolving door on a yearly basis; Greg Hardy, Randy Gregory, Taco Charlton, Robert Quinn, Aldon Smith. The front office has tried to address the position via the draft with zero success. Taco we are all are aware of, but the likes of Charles Tapper, Ben Gardner, Ryan Russell, Dorance Armstrong. Rod Marinelli was considered prior to coming to the Cowboys as one of the best in developing young DL Talent. Outside of Lawrence and maybe Crawford, very little success at the position.
This year many like the idea of drafting Chaisson from LSU as he would finally address the need long-term. However, he did come attached with legitimate question marks with production. Edge rushers are always in high demand, they are often overdrafted and come with a high bust rate. It's also a position in which there is a lot of development on this level, as they can no longer just rely on their athletic abilities against NFL caliber Tackles.
Many will argue this position is more important then any other on the entire unit. The best defensive teams are the ones who can generate a pass rush without the need to blitz. It puts way too much pressure on the back end and no team can be successful if a NFL QB has the time.

Haley was the best and we traded for him.
Too Tall was the best homegrown guy we ever had.
But other than that..
Ware was outstanding but he was really a LBer.
Plus good ones are hard to find.
Look what Clowney wants. Crazy.
Micheal Strahan and Osi Umenyiora.Refresh my memory. Which guys were they paying at the top of the league at that position at that time? I don’t remember that.
Chaisson is going to be a bust. Just watch his tape most of his sacks are based off stunts ways to get him free. I think he had only 2 sacks just beating his man. He got dominated by Georgia's thomas I think maybe winning 1 rep where he got a pressure and caused an incomplete pass.
The last RE we should have drafted was in 2017 which was carl lawson. who was the best d lineman in the class and went in the 4th round to the bengals.
the edge rusher we should have drafted was TJ Watt who was on the Cowboys drat board - even ahead of Taco.
we dunno if Carl Lawson was even a medical red flag scratch off Cowboys board at the time.
It's a reason why he fell as far the mid-rounds.
and it tickles me when i see posters saying we should have drafted this/that guy now, but we didn't hear
that at draft time, ,it's absolutely hindsight now.
-It's fair to say Lawrence/Crawford were the only two that truly worked out under Marinelli. Many misses, for a DL Coach who has a successful, track record.
It was definitely time for Marinelli to move on but in fairness he did gets solid seasons out of Antwuan Woods, David Irving, Terrell McClain, George Selvie and Jeremy Mincey when all those guys were acquired off the scrap heap.
Marinelli's failings were as a DC, not in developing defensive linemen.
He can coach; he cannot scout. He assembled one of the worst teams in history in Detroit.
