If you were Jerry Jones, how would you approach Dak for an extension?

With all due respect, these two statements are completely diametrically opposed to the reality of the situation and should explain why a long term contract hasn't been signed. This deal wont get done in 15 minutes since they've had 4 years to mull this over and 1 playoff win in 4 years doesn't merit an extension.

The fact is that MM has seen greatness at the QB position and he knows Dak is not that.

There is no long term contract. Dak is merely another Kirk Cousins type stop gap

I think you’re going to be proven wrong here. The only issue with the deal has been the term and its impact on the guaranteed new money. Dak’s 100% going to be the QB for at least the next four seasons when it’s all said and done.

Well, if it's not this, it's taking up for Garrett so take your pick.

@Idgit can be rehabilitated. With acceptance and patience we can make it work.
Defending Garrett was not wrong. Garrett struggled with Dak getting on the same page with receivers.

I agree because what are the options?

It really is funny watching the "Romo Effect" on Prescott discussions, the more the Dakaters rag on him, the more defensive and angry the Daksters become and both are far too extreme in both directions.

Dak Prescott is a good QB, bordering on being a very good QB and chose his contract year to be his best year, that gets rewarded and should. The problem is some think they deserve a great QB, like Brees, Rodgers or Wilson with their 1 ring each. How can the great Dallas Cowboys, America's Team, follow up a UDFA QB with this 4th rounder? How dare they provide a great story instead of an anointed one.

The funniest part of this forum are the posters that just want this to be over like this is going to go away. He can sign a 4 year deal and there are posters here already working on 4 years of ragging on him. He will never do enough for some, they just don't like him.

Same with Romo. The old boards finally made a Romo section. Lol.

As a fan, I understand Dak is our best option but I just don’t believe in committing to him just yet. So honestly at this point I don’t care if he’s here long term or not.

To Dak and Jerry it means a whole lot more. We as fans are fans of not just the team but also individual players. So it’s understandable that we side with them on certain things especially, when and how long they are on our team.

It just so happens, in this situation, the FO sides with my thinking. He’s good but is he great? The other side pulls stats out because they believe he’s great. But the action of our FO nullifies that belief.

That’s why I always raise the question... what’s the hold up? Why hasn’t he been given what he wants if he is suppose to be our franchise QB for the long run?

Whether it’s fair or not, it’s business. Everyone else got paid so why not him? After all that’s said and done and Dak feels he needs to go because of the “disrespect,” I’ll wave goodbye and say hi to the next one.
Fans like you who actually believe the delay in pay is because of lack of talent or performance truly don't get it. I guarantee you it's got nothing to do with both. Jerry is simply trying to short change Dak, but Dak is having none of it.

And I am not aware of one poster changing their stance once the war started. It got to personal insults in a hummingbird's heartbeat and the ones on time out couldn't wait to get back in and go at it again.

I have accepted Prescott, warts and all, as the DC QB for the next 4 years because the Joneses are blinkers. There are a few others I would rather have at QB but there are more that I am glad are not in that position so I am fine with it. I do think he can get the job done, the Joneses? That's another question, I have a lot more confidence in Prescott than them.

We went through the same thing here with Romo. Nobody remembers it now because it was always a loud minority of posters. Now al we remember is that he was “a great QB whose talent was wasted.” At the time, though, he was an injury-risk who threw too many picks with the game on the line who couldn’t lead because he wore his hat backwards and dated Jessica Simpson.

Sign him and improve your Defense. Our ST should improve cause I don’t think it could get worse. If we had a better Defense or ST last year we may not have made the SB but would have made the playoffs. JG was never going to get us any further.

Booger is not looking too good these days, Lawrence, Cooper get top deals and then Elliott takes him to the contract woodshed with 2 years left, unheard of at that point, and now he gets Prescott with an agent that plays the long game.

He's trying to come out of this with a win and has made this 5 year deal represent that and is ignoring the 3 year deal talks going on about the other QB's.

The fact is the Joneses are not nearly as good at their jobs as the agents are and this has been going on for some time. That's what happens when there are no consequences to being bad at your job and keeping it.

When will posters here stop blaming the agents and players for the problem the owner created by hiring himself and his son? The Joneses are just not very good at this NFL football thing.

This is the failed approach Jerry and Stephen took last year. It was totally disrespectful to Dak. Look at the end result? Dak refused to sign the lowballed offer by the Jones, hence HE BET ON HIMSELF AND PROVED HIMSELF IN 2019. By wanting to do the same this year to Dak is so wrong on so many levels. No wonder Dak is holding his ground even more now, not giving Jerry and Stephen an inch. How do you think Dak feels knowing Jerry jumped right away and gave Romo his first big contract after Romo (been on the team as a backup for 2.5 years) had only played 2/3rds as a starter for the 2006 season and led the team to the playoffs, while Dak as a bonafied rookie not only led the team to a 13-3 record, led them to the division round (2nd round) of the playoffs, almost beat the SB ex-champs Aaron Rodgers and his Packers) and also became the only Cowboys QB to win NFL Rookie of the Year along with other rookie record accomplishments? 4+ years later, Dak is being told to prove himself once again? That's totally wrong. How would you feel if you were in Dak's shoes? Can you blame Dak for being totally upset and now playing hardball with the Jones'?

Wow! You sound like you're emotionally invested in this contract negotiation.

Fans like you don’t get it because if it was about talent and performance and how much you pump him up, he’d be paid. You don’t short change a QB (with your evaluation of Dak) but you do if he’s not worth it.

DAK ranks top 5 easily in every QB stat out there. Plus, his video performances back that up. Pretty much proves you wrong, but go ahead and keep whining like a baby if you want. Guaranteed Dak will be our franchise QB for many years to come.

The team, yes.
Did you cheer any less, or more, based off any player's contract?
Probably not.

Will you refuse to proudly root your team on to victory each week
this year despite them so rudely not signing their QB to exactly what
his agents may tell him he wants? Probably not.

The point is, maybe it's fruitless to be so frustrated over something you have no
control over.

Bringing up Romo isn't helpful. His body was breaking down and
eventually it cost them greatly. It only serves as a reminder that committing that
amount of cap to one player can cripple a team.

Lol! Whining? Says the guy who always resorts back to insults.

;) Also says this guy...

Let me quote you.

Jerry jumped right away and gave Romo his first big contract after Romo

Dak is being told to prove himself once again? That's totally wrong.

Looks like you’re the one trying to come to terms with what you see and what the FO is doing. Must be hard for you. Stop projecting. At some point, you’re gonna have to deal with your own problems.

I don’t care much man. He signed the franchise tag so I support him that much. He’s our QB if he plays well then pay him, if not bye.
