What happened with Google logins today?

It took me 15 minutes to log into a simple Gmail account, one which I have not lost my password for. I keep all my passwords in a password vault. This is just a beater gmail account that I only use for one specific purpose. I should have just been able to put in my user name and password, but stupid Google in its infinite wisdom keeps trying to pester me to tie it to a phone number or another email. I've had this thing for years and just wanted to log in. I would think the purpose of tying an account to a phone number is in case of losing a password, but I don't lose my passwords. I keep all of them well protected in a password vault. Google is just determined to make me link it to other stuff where I don't want it linked. Drive you nuts. Google doesn't understand how people use Google.

Edit: A miracle occurred when it finally let me in. The browser was logged into another gmail account. Sheesh. You would think knowing your password would be enough. Don't link it to my phone number. Don't link it to another email. Don't link it to my birth certificate. Just let me type in my user name and password.

Google is just trying to protect customer accounts.

If you want a throwaway email address, I suggest you use a less secure service that doesn't provide these types of security mechanisms. In a sense, you are trying to lock your bicycle in a bank vault when you could just use a bike chain.

There are many throwaway email services out there.

I have considered using something different. I did finally get in though. It wasn't a password problem.

It does appear that Gmail is having issues this morning. My primary gmail account is churning as we speak.

Okay, must have been a glitch. I was wondering. Must have cleared up and then finally worked. I get mad at Google sometimes, but I'll still take them over Apple.

have you own domain and personalized email( you host it or host it somewhere else)
get an email account from GMX or Mail.com ( German company)
use prontomail.com from Switzerland( a little secure than most but as we all know there is no such security in the internet)
just stay away from google

Thanks for the tip. I've been annoyed with Google ever since they took over Youtube and tried to twist your arm into linking your real information to your comments on Youtube. I found an end-around but I was still peeved. I don't want some weirdo becoming obsessed over me over some innocuous Youtube comment I make and coming after me.

Mine appears to be working fine. If yours was acting up it was probably overloaded from them selling your info to various competitors

I apologize if you took it the wrong way, it was a semi-serious joke
