It took me 15 minutes to log into a simple Gmail account, one which I have not lost my password for. I keep all my passwords in a password vault. This is just a beater gmail account that I only use for one specific purpose. I should have just been able to put in my user name and password, but stupid Google in its infinite wisdom keeps trying to pester me to tie it to a phone number or another email. I've had this thing for years and just wanted to log in. I would think the purpose of tying an account to a phone number is in case of losing a password, but I don't lose my passwords. I keep all of them well protected in a password vault. Google is just determined to make me link it to other stuff where I don't want it linked. Drive you nuts. Google doesn't understand how people use Google.
Edit: A miracle occurred when it finally let me in. The browser was logged into another gmail account. Sheesh. You would think knowing your password would be enough. Don't link it to my phone number. Don't link it to another email. Don't link it to my birth certificate. Just let me type in my user name and password.
