MM's silence about Dak is deafening.

There was no break down in negotiations or anything like that.

Its clear that shortly after MM was hired that the team decided to have him play on the tag this year. The rest is just PR bumf. I believe Dak sent plenty of proposals in an effort to try and get a multi year deal, but none were seriously considered by the team - the decision had already been made.

Myself and several other CZ members got a lot of grief for calling this several months ago - including personal insults - even though our views were based on sound logic. It appears we called it correctly.

Brian Hoyer and Matt Schaub put up monster numbers to just to name a couple QBs. It's the modern nfl. 4000 yards is a baseline almost.
yup Fitz always dropping big numbers, Winston was #1 in stats as a QB now hes third string, yes he throw's int but hey 33td and 5k yards!

Rarely do you get a QB the caliber of Dak Prescott in the 4th round and enjoy the fruits of a 4th round picks salary for 4 years. Dak sacrificed his body and soul diligently working on his game to improve all the while dealing with an incompetent coaching staff. And this is what Jerry and crew have done. It’s embarrassing to be a Cowboys fan right now. The organization sucks. I shouldn’t be surprised but I am.

This is a joke right...because I thought it was a two way negotiation?... difficult to keep overlooking all the good to not pick the presumed bad lol

Hoyer never put up 4,000 yards or monster numbers. He got only had over 3,000 once in his career 3,326 yards), and that was 6 years ago.

As for 4,000 yards being almost a baseline, Dak was just shy of 5,000 yards, which is not.

im not saying yardage is all that matters - clearly it’s not - but the arguments need to be fair and not thrown around without checking facts.

MM wanted to come to Dallas, largely because of DAK PRESCOTT. He admired his game for 2 years now. Watched tons of game film. I'm not buying the notion that Dak didn't sign long term due to Mike. Thats hogwash. Its Todd France, and Todd France alone, who squashed any chance have keeping Dak here beyond 2020. ITS ALL OVER. Now we have a lame duck QB situation looming over the team. NOT a position Mike M wanted to be in to begin his Cowboy debut. BTW..Dak bares some of the blame on the lack of a deal too. He's a grown man, he could have stepped in and said, HELL NO TODD, I am signing this deal. BUT HE DID NOT. So there's that. If Dak really wanted to be here beyond 2020,he would have done the deal. My hunch is,he and his agent cooked this up several months ago because secretly,Dak wants to test free agency and be somewhere else. I think HE has soured on the Jones family and the team itself. Not the other way around.

It’s really not. MM already knows Dak is with him this season, and it wasn’t his contract to negotiate. A smart head coach would stay silent so he neither pisses off his employer or his starting QB.

Here's why GM 101 says you dont sign a QB in Daks situation:

1. Risk the QB will not flourish in the new scheme or gel with the new coaching staff. Even a QB like Mahomes will not work out in every situation.
2. The team does not need to decide on Dak until early 2021, so why take the risk?
3. The impact of losing 100m in dead money is not manageable. The risk of paying an extra 4-5 m per annum if the price goes up is manageable.
4. The risk of the cap going down due to the economy. Need to save as much cap space in future years as we can.
5. The specific doubts about Dak - why make a decision now when it can wait?
6. The QB market is falling. Some teams are signing experienced starters for under 10m.
7. If Dak didnt work out, the effort of bringing in MM would be wasted.

The Cowboys FO made the sensible logical decision. Why criticize?

The only failing I see is not withdrawing the tag last month and offering a lower amount. Dak would not have gotten 30m plus anywhere else this close to the season and with the economic doubts. Would have had to settle for 10m - so Cowboys have lost 20m they coild have saved. This is what a hard nosed front office would do. Dak benefitted from JJ being loyal and decent to his players.

Dak wants top 3 money. Sure he's a good QB. But he is in fantasyland thinking that is what he is worth. On his 5th year he wants 40 million. Seriously, I think he is being greedy.
Pay is not a position ranking, nor can it be because market conditions change every year. That’s why Wentz is making more than Rodgers - he just negotiated more recently and under different market conditions than Rodgers.

Come back when you grow up little boy. 4900 + yards isn’t possible if a QB can’t hit a target.

The only thing that is little and verified is Dak's talent base at QB.
Hey, bud James Winston is on the phone wants to tell you about his new contract.....:muttley:

I guess you missed that Winston threw 30 INTs and had a significantly lower completion % and passer rating than Dak. But, of course you miss anything that is fair minded when it comes to Dak.

The contracts that Cowboys signed Tyron and L. Collins are probably the best values in the NFL. Frederick’s contract was great because even though he got hurt/retired they were able to get off the books quickly. Same with Dez. Romo’s contract was the mistake that ironically Dak saved us from.

How so? He plays on the tag this season and gets the deal done next year. No big deal.
Yep, that's very much how I see this going.

I'm not sure if I'm happy about it or not, but I dont see why he is being written off.
