just put all the team's name in a hat and draw for the Superbowl winner. oh, and the players still get to receive a check.

Without proper strength and conditioning the season is going to be a disaster. Hamstring issues galore at the very least.

Good luck having a dominant run game with linemen not at peak strength.

Gyms across the country were shut down. So aside from the vets who’ve made their money, the lower guys were using whatever equipment was mailed to them and these guys are used to being told their daily routine. I doubt zoom accountability was top notch for these guys getting work in with what they were given.

Then defensively there’s no way they’ll pick up a complex scheme in 3 weeks.

This is going to be a 7-9 season at best. Hope McCarthy gets a year added to his deal to avoid shouldering the load for this abomination they’re about to roll out.

The NFL saying safety first loses all credibility to go from couch status for 7 months to a first game with just 3 weeks of work by the time they can actually start practicing.
The safety first cries were always BS.

Its money first, PR second, preventing lawsuits third (same as money really)....anything else is an extremely distant fourth at best.

They won’t shatter all cowboy records because they won’t be at their peak Individual performance to do so.

It’s going to be an ugly product everywhere. And when you factor how the defense will probably be bottom 10 as they figure out the new scheme on the field and not just in zoom meetings, that affects how the offense performs when you’re always playing catch up.
Agreed and sad.

Thing is, money rules in the NFL, and quality product or bad one, they will make every attempt to collect it.

I'm just hoping for some sort of miracle.

One pre-season game probably would have been a decent chance of demonstrating how their testing protocols work. Play it 3 weeks before the regular season and see how many players, coaches or whomever come up positive. It could possibly provide a glimpse into how the season might unfold.

I still doubt there's going to be a season. If there is its going to really weird with no fans.
i bet theres fans at some point limited as Nascar and Golf now allowing fans already... if they do it in ramp ups and have solid plans, it will happen..however ill take no fans over no football

Made players hate preseason but it's necessary for coaches and guys who otherwise wouldn't get a shot. If you take it away then I agree the only solution is to expand the roster in some way, and watch the ugliness unfold on game day.

Or cancel the season.

I find this completely idiotic but I've found the last 4 months the same so...

Preseason has a purpose. An important one. Players need to be developed and evaluated. Teams need to be prepared.

This is gonna be a mess with us for a month......new coaches all around, systems, etc. we finally get a new HC and Covid hits. I blame Jerry for Covid 19!!!!

Yeah I suggested that before, but I guess owners are smarter than us :muttley:

So. In another month it’s gonna be ok to play games. Teams are gonna be a sloppy mess. If they do that they need make major changes. You have nothing but practice to see who makes the team.
College has never needed preseason games to make player evaluations.

But they get basically 3 months of preseason by bringing kids in June 1. The first 2 months are more OTAs and “player led practices” but they still are around the facility and are getting strength and conditioning all summer.

Look on the bright side, the opening of the season and even into the 2nd week has been sloppy because the stars haven't been playing because the coaches didn't want to risk them in meaningless games.

Any coach that actually needs preseason games against other non starters to flesh out his roster needs to hand in his coaching card.

How many roster spots do y'all think are up for grabs that preseason games will decide? Think the Cowboys coaches need that? Or can they tell more from a controlled situation at camp or practice and the film they have?

I think y'all are going to be surprised that the level of play isn't any different opening weekend than it has been with 4-5 pretend games. Unless it is virus related.

These players today are in year round training because of the money at stake.

Back in the day, players used camp to get into game shape and my favorite part of that was the overweight list they'd put on with their part-time jobs. That was the main reason linemen hated camp, it was like Bear Bryant's A&M camp for a lot of them. And the fines for lbs could really be felt by them back then.

A lot of guys that could of made the team maybe out on the streets forever now. If you are a bottom feeder on great hit. One great interception or throw maybe the difference of making a team. Guys like Bill Bates. No preseason I doubt we even hear of a named Bill Bates playing for Dallas. And the list would go on way longer for guys who made teams in preseason that wouldn't had if not for preseason. Gonna be a lot of diamonds in the rough cut this summer. Smart teams better nab em up. But how will you know with NO preseason.:hammer:

So you don’t think on the pro level we need it. Just watch them run around in shorts at half speed and make a judgement. The CBA has made these camps much softer than what you and I used to see. The NFL already kicks off the season with a the first few games being out of sync and messy.

I will take what I can get for football season.

No, I do not think they need it and don't think the good ones even use it. They have enough information on players and there are so few spots open on most teams that the preseason games exist for one reason, to make the owners additional money because they're not on real games checks yet but they are on full ticket prices, concessions and merch.

What began as "Exhibition Games" in other markets to kick up extra money evolved into the preseason games fleshing out the season ticket package at 10 games and charging the same price for additional profit and if you wanted season tickets, you had no choice and they had no value on the resale front.

Even the 3rd "dress rehearsal" preseason game is a thing of the past and coaches don't want to risk players and every player knows the story of injury settlements to players during the preseason. They're paid professional athletes and they're not playing all out until it gets real.

The reason it's so sloppy to start the season is because they don't give the players enough real game work and the coaches realize the short term memory of owners/GM's when they've lost a key player to the preseason.

I really do not think we'll see a difference because the players realize they don't have any games until it gets real. And they don't have to use valuable time in travel for pretend games and can use that time to get ready.

I am going out on a limb here but I will predict that the consensus of opinion is that the play will look as sharp, if not sharper, with no preseason games. Something the players will love and the owners will not. The coaches and players do not need the preseason, the owners do.

They need to expand the rosters then. At least for the first 4 to 6 games.

2 PS games would have been at least enough to evaluate some players.

teams with new coaching staffs will be at even more of a disadvantage as to implementing their philosophies.
MM best be what we want him to be to overcome this.
Agreed.
