lol another guy right up against the back half of his career, how many of those players do you want? we already have Poe and McCoy on the downside of their careers.

At this point if anybody takes any post by you and says the exact opposite he will be right 100% of the time

I've felt for some time that he makes a lot of sense assuming he will agree to a 1year deal with a team option for a 20d year. If he wants something longer term, probably not. I'm excited to see what Aldon Smith has to offer, but it seems a significant gamble to rely too heavily on him.

a one year for a a guy that will be 33 years of age with a 2nd year option is the Only way i would be for Griffin.
i read the BTB article too, and feel EG at this stage and age of his career to bid for that last long term contract.
But i'm not trusting a 33 year old DE on such a long term deal - that's exactly the age where a full time edge rusher .
can hit the wall quickly.

I just don't understand why Dallas hadn't signed Griffen a while ago, it's a no brainer...

Don't think this deal is happening or their waiting to see what's up with RG.

George Edwards has all the info DAL FO needs on Griffen and ain't nothing jumped off, so gotta be some inside info fans are not up on...or dude would be signed already.

Bingo!!!!!!!! ....what's interesting is we have heard anything, zip, nothing from FO interest. Hell even with Clowney, we at least heard some interest IF his price came down. I posted in another thread, we know Griffin has decent physical talent but he apparently has some other issues MM or Edwards want little or nothing to do with. Either that or they're 100% sold on Aldon Smith.

A possible reason why Everson Griffen has remained unsigned

by Adam Patrick3 weeks ago

The longtime Minnesota Vikings defensive end is still a free agent.
For someone who has earned four trips to the Pro Bowl during his last five seasons as a member of the Minnesota Vikings, one would assume that Everson Griffen would have found a team to play for this year after he hit free agency in March.

However, that hasn’t been the case for Griffen. The 32-year-old pass rusher is still unsigned and there hasn’t even been much chatter recently about him gaining any interest from around the league.

During a radio interview on Thursday, Yahoo’s Charles Robinson said he’s heard, “nothing,” about Griffen potentially signing anywhere and that, “it’s really weird.”

Why hasn’t the former Minnesota Vikings pass rusher signed with anyone yet?
Chris Tomasson covers the Vikings for the Pioneer Press and he recently spoke with the guys over at Bleeding Purple about some potential reasons for why the veteran defensive end has remained unsigned this offseason.

https://www.nbcsports.com/northwest/seattle-seahawks/reason-everson-griffen-hasnt-been-signed-yet

Let's remember Edwards witnessed this first hand as his DC.........
It's interesting he voided the final 3 years of his deal with Vikes over 6 sacks........thinking he could get more than $13.9M he was set to make. Makes you wonder, is he about winning or $$$$$$$?

As the waiting game continues, Griffen spoke with Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, saying the process “has taken a lot of patience, a lot of self-reflection” regarding why he hasn’t drawn more interest after an eight-sack season for the Vikings in 2019.

Griffen voided the final three years of his contract with the Vikings to become a free agent this offseason. He was just one of only two players in the NFL last season to have a player-controlled void that allowed him to out of his contract if he hit a series of benchmarks: 6.5 sacks and playing on 57 percent of the team's defensive snaps. Last season, Griffen had eight sacks and played 78 percent of snaps.

At age 32, Griffen has recorded 57 sacks over the past six seasons, beating out former No. 1 pick Jadeveon Clowney's 32 in the same time span.

He is betting on himself, believing he can command more than the $13.9 million cap hit he was going to have on the Vikings roster, but so far, it hasn’t panned out.

But, why?

"It's like, why haven't (more) teams been interested? And the reason why is because they don't know Everson."

Outside of Griffen’s dominating performance on the field, some may look to what has been reported off the field.

There are widely publicized reports from 2018 of verbal outbursts in practice, which prompted the Vikings to order Griffen to undergo a mental health evaluation. He had an encounter with police at a hotel in Minnesota when "an individual was threatening to shoot someone if he wasn't allowed in his room." Additionally, according to the Minnesota Star-Tribune, Griffen was "growing increasingly paranoid and feared someone was trying to kill him in the weeks and days," ahead of that police incident. Griffen lived in a sober house for three months to deal with mental health issues.

Griffen insists those days are behind him, though.

“I am healthy and there's nothing really that you have to worry about, because I'm doing all the right things. There's nothing I'm doing behind the scenes that they should be worried about. I'm doing everything possible to make sure that 2018 doesn't happen again. And it will not happen."

I've been saying all off season I'd give Griffen the money the Cowboys are throwing away with Crawford in a NY minute.

Back around Christmas Crawford said he would take a pay cut. I expect he's only 4-5mil this year, and that's if we keep him.

Thanks Mickey. You do realize that Griffen has never played fewer than 11 games in a season (twice in 10 years), and played 15 or more in 8 of his 10 seasons. Crawford, on the other hand, missed an entire season, and only played in 4 games last year in an 8 season career. He has been fighting off injuries his entire career, and is coming off of double hip surgery.

Who sounds more like a one year, stop gap guy at the end of the road? Everson Griffen or Tyrone Crawford?

Crawford's still here and they like him, They brought Smith in before a Griffin obviously THEY think Crawford is a better fit.

He offered but was never approached by Jerry or Stephen as far we know. Think his salary is $9-10M range....

I think we gonna roll with what we have or I hope so. Remember JJ is a gambler....big time Vegas whale. During uncertain times such as these a good gambler pulls his chips back and stands pat until the deck starts turning back around. True baller is alway in for the long run....jus sayin
And like him or not...Jerry is a phat baller.

I need Kaiser to weigh in and tell us all again how Crawford won’t play for his current cap hit. That Stephen will get something done.

This franchise overrated Crawford. That’s plainly obvious at this point.

It's a no brainer IMO. He won't be expensive, likely looking for short term deals at this point, which fits into our cap strategy. He can still play, as he'd be the best RDE on the roster to start the season. He's top level insurance against the reality that Crawford is a JAG at RDE and/or Smith/Gregory don't find their youthful steps again.

I am going to beat the living hell out of this dead horse.

I've got to believe that there's a good reason why Dallas hasn't signed Griffen considering his remaining availability. It could be his asking price. It could be he's a head case or bad locker-room presence, since we have a coach on staff that would know that. I'd say if our LB coach was all gung-ho about getting him, we would have already if the asking price was OK.

To start out with the first thing I thought of was if Griffen was so good why have the vikings just let him walk without trying to keep him. Next this Connor Livesay big idea of restructuring contracts to be able to sign him is the same thing the Cowboys did that kept them in cap hell for twenty years by money that ends up as dead money until they finally stop doing that. Lastly if Griffen was so good why at this late date is he still a free agent? There are other teams in need of DE's yet he's still a free agent. A 10 year vet is still sitting unsigned for a reason. It reminds me of Bryant who sat until after week 9 before he was signed because a sudden loss of receivers for the saints. He was a last resort type of signing.

Right now, without knowing anything about Smith or Gregory, Crawford is likely your starting DE. Forget the fact that he's a flex guy (which undermines your point anyway), he's not a starting caliber RDE in this league. He's just not. He's a DT trying to play DE.

No one said Griffin is Lawrence Taylor sitting out there. But he's likely a short term solution and he's the best DE you'd have on this roster after Lawrence. I am not scare of older players if they are on short term deals. You squeeze a year out of them, then toss them aside and they have little impact on your cap, etc.

I think it's funny that you compared a Griffen a DE to Taylor who was a LB. Maybe that helps to explain why you are so hung up on a player that nobody has shown any interest in signing.
