Is that how you came about your name?

haha. No! I got my name playing shortstop in high school. It was a takeoff on Phil "Scooter" Rizzuto because I am of Italian ancestry. My teammates thought they were funny I guess.

My guilty pleasure movies have always been the same thing, B creature features. I do love the 3 Stooges, Marx Brothers, Little Rascals and Bowery Boys but for the ultimate popcorn movie sit me down in front of a creature feature and I grade them as OK, good and excellent, there's no such thing as a bad creature feature for me.

To prove that, I have watched "The Killer Shrews" more than once. This was radio Top 40 legend Gordon McClendon's foray into film making and he also starred in it as nothing less than the Mad Doctor. He put little overcoats on dogs and made a head on a stick and didn't even have a moving mouth. Yep, had to have a repeat showing of that when it was available.

If Hammer Films had a mailing list back then, I would have been at the top of it as I thought Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing should have been knighted along with Vincent Price, the master of the macabre.

I don't know why I like getting scared unless I like the feeling when that passes. And I define scary as being able to hide under your bed, behind a door or in your closet. You will note the use of "your" there.

I also must admit to more than one viewing of "Terror of Tiny Town", a western starring midgets riding Shetland ponies. I thought they should have had miniature Oscars for them.

Yes, the Marx Brothers were the best. Duck Soup and Day at the Races were two great movies.

Now that's a guilty pleasure movie. I don't think everyone understands the term "guilty pleasure".
I define that as something you'd prefer not to share with other people, except for the purpose of this thread.

However, when one lives alone, the "guilty pleasure" takes on a different meaning. Then it becomes anything that might make me blush if I am doing it in front of my family or The Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Exactly. Like if it turned out you really do like the Mama Mia movies, that'd be a guilty pleasure...for which you should be shot with crap and hung for stinking.

I agree and would go willingly and help tie the knots so I can't escape.

I know I've shared my disdain for that movie but I didn't tell you how much my forearms ached the next day. I was, involuntarily, clenching my fists so tightly and for so long every time they started to sing that if my wife had tried to hold my hand, I would have broken her fingers. She laughed about it the next day as she tole me "I was ready to leave before they were halfway through that, it was awful". I did ask if I got extra credit and chick flick points for enduring that and she said "no, your forearms are punishment, I could see you clenching your fists so you get no credit".

The crazy thing is that I like Abba's music but I had no idea what I was in store for and if I'd seen that live on Broadway, they'd have another assassination to talk about at the theater by Couch Wilkes Coach.

It's movies like that, and Cats that make me glad I'm single.

I don't know that I would call it a guilty pleasure move but I will say this. Understand that I'm not a big "Go To The Movies" kinda guy. I think that there are some movies that are a must see in theaters but most are not. Truth is, I don't really like going to a theater because to me, it's better watching a movie in my own chair, in my own living room but I get the theater thing for some movies. So what does that mean? Well, it means that my Wife and I never really went to a lot of movies together but, one movie we did go to see, one movie my Wife wanted to see was How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days. Matt McConaughey and Kate Hudson, was one of the first movies I can recall going to a theater to watch with her. So I recall going to see it and liking it, at the time. Not really my kind of flick but it was nice, went to see it, wasn't terrible and then, as I recall, ate crab at Red Lobster late. Was a good night. I can't say that I really remember watching it again, after that first time.

That is, until a few days ago. My Wife went to Cali for a week to visit her Sister and to see her God Child's new Baby for the first time. So while she was gone, I was flipping through the channels, waiting for a pot pie to heat up and I ran across that movie. So, I put it on and started watching it and you know what, I enjoyed it, I think, just as much as I did the first time. That's usually not me, especially with those types of love stories. So I think that I might buy that movie here soon and maybe go to Costco and buy some Crab legs, melt some butter and garlic and have a date night with my Wife all over again. Maybe she will go for that and we can enjoy that movie together, all over again.

Just a thought.........

For me, the term is flexible. Allow me to expand upon my thought for a moment.

Unquestionably, the Star Wars franchise is one of Hollywood's greatest legacies. Overall movie attendance makes that claim credible. Lifetime box office does as well.

Even so, Star Wars films have always been highly criticized as 'substandard' entertainment by those who are not entertained by them. Critics are entitled to their opinion but I would also make the claim that the films have been stigmatized to an unnecessary degree as a byproduct.

I love the Star Wars movies, even including The Last Jedi  but I do not proactively share my viewing opportunities with anyone else like I would with movies that are more acceptable to some people. Yes, I do not feel guilty watching Star Wars or others on my list but do think there are those who would see me watching certain movies and try making me feel guilty for doing so. That is how I see (at least some) movies as being a guilty pleasure.

sorry i just lost a thorough detail post on " Guilty Pleasure " term with an Error and i don't feel like writing it all over so i'm looking for quicker, shorter question with this;
This dictionary term probably best describes how i see Guilty Pleasure movies too.

" A guilty pleasure is something, such as a film, a television program or a piece of music, that one enjoys despite understanding that it is not generally held in high regard, or is seen as unusual or weird. For example, a person may secretly like a movie but will admit that particular movie is poorly made and/or generally seen as "not good." It can also be used to refer to one’s taste for foods that are considered to be advisable to avoid, especially for health reasons."

Fashion, video games, music, theatre, television series, films, food and fetishes can be examples of guilty pleasures.

" Flexible " is probably what i would consider Guilty Pleasure term about though i am surprised East placed Star Wars as a guilty pleasure
as SW is/has been so widely been considered by critics and fans as probably the most popular movie series of all time.
and we know how huge it's fan base is

Couch,... i too grew up on Hammer Films , as well as Godzilla/Gamera movies which was over the top and cheesy now but was the " in'
back in the days, .. could the Hammer Films be considered just genre horror, than Over the top ?

I have never watched the Hallmark Channel but I understand they stole the idea of the production company from Hammer. Use the same stable of actors, just different roles.

i feel its a different between favorite movies ...vs Guilty Pleasures movies.
i always considered Guilty Pleasure as over the Top antics, CGI effect and cinematography, It's not meant to be criitically acclaimed but more popcorn fun cheesy and meant to target viewing audiences than critics.

Quick and the Dead..
A top 10 for sure, Hackman was great, really does that role well, and that was Russell Crowe's first real role. Sharon Stone was badass but I think Maximus would have taken her by the 6th round.

And I love Lance Henriksen, the guy seems to love every role he has. He's out to make the viewer remember him no matter how small the part. He's why I like Hard Target.

lol.

I have watched practically every Star Wars released film release during its opening week since the original. One thing I have enjoyed doing my entire life is talking about a movie I love with anyone who would listen.

Long ago, I lost count how many people I have come across who said 'Star Wars is childish', 'The Empire Strikes Back is not a top film of all-time', etc. I do not know what to tell you but there is a general sentiment about the franchise that is not highly regarded by certain movie goers. AND you should count yourself as extremely lucky if you have never across 'enough' people who disagree with critics and (in my opinion) most fans of the franchise. Heck. I am somewhat envious of you.
