I think a team needs to change offense and defense strategy and plays all the time.
No one defense/offense will work all the time, and the longer u use it the more other teams will exploit it.
That is something JG and marinelli didnt seem to comprehend.

Talking about threads in general.
You know very well people have been non stop critical. They are allowed to do that. But if you are critical, by default, you are saying you have a better idea....especially if that critique is specific.
It's fine....it's a sports forum. Coach coaching experts are the norm
Everyone can live someone's life better or take and do their jobs better when the problems are so glaring.

There is nothing wrong with running a vanilla defense if you invest in the whole defense. From top to bottom. But if you keep bringing in bottom feeders, at any position, then run a vanilla defense your asking for trouble. The previous coaching staff wouldn't invest our safeties or our DT's, but wanted to play a vanilla defense. Common sense, and a little NFL history, says that's not going to work.

Bill Parcells ran a vanilla defense, but he invested in the whole defense, from top to bottom. And it worked for him.

So to me, it's not that posters are experts. Its just they've seen an expert in action and now they can tell the difference.

But yeah, I agree with you. Most of us could coach Garrett under a table in an instant. If you let us tell it. He had glaring problems that he would just ignore.

Yup. San Darnold went from looking like a seasoned vet to seeing ghosts in the span of one week last season. Lack of “execution” would be the go to excuse for lack of coaching though.

It's execution with RKG's, stacking good days and it is all a process.

I ask this as unlike ALL you guys here...I've never played NFL football so I unlike ALL of you don't know how it works.

But why can;t a player come out of his stupidly called coverage and play like how he knows it should be? Gonna get benched? Well okay bench me then. Put it an even worse player to not be able to play your calls.

These guys have been doing it all their lives...but the play call is what holds them back and set them into complete ruin? I don;t buy it. I think it's PART of the problem but not totally.
Because any D who had players freelancing like that would be easily abused. Must have good scheme, players must buy in and follow

yeah I would agree, they also like power and control. The theme around the league is " just do your job!" which is saying I will tell you what your job is,
and dont think about it, I will do all the thinking, and you just obey .

So...you think michael Jordan towed the line?

Now I agree...basketball is different. It has a more one on one on one playing.

The issue here....is not JUST a rogue player. But maybe a couple. Maybe a QB who will change plays. Maybe LB who changes coverage.

You are telling me that player will get fired? Under Garret? Come on man. Really?

These guys have been playing their whole lives...and you are telling me they follow a tainted regime to the letter? These guys wouldn't nor shouldn't "buy in" to a poisoned system. Surely just a few "adjustments" by the alleged "leaders" would make a difference.

I’m glad Marinelli is gone. I celebrated that one.

...losing KRichard was not good. But he was not going to coach under Nolan.

that #LegionOfBoom cover 3/1 is for real though.

ask Manning.

Regardless if teams knew things or didnt, chido still got worked and showed zero ball skills and instincts on the outside. He should be playing inside at nickel

I've of course been critical of some guys on the team I don't care for.

We all have.

It's really impossible to have judged anyone given this Garrett situation.

You cant win in today's NFL when everyone knows what you're going to do while you have all these brilliant offensive minds trying to scheme at your weakness.

It infuriates me that Jerry had to stick with his puppet for THAT long for his own selfish reasons.

You cant both coach AND win Jerry. Sorry. You're lucky you're in a position to be competitive, and that's almost definitely because of McClay, not you.

Honest question

Does anyone know if Nolan's defenses, on average, have historically ranked higher than Marinelli's

I mean, almost 100% of the time, the new coaches bring in excitement their first year with a new team.

Just asking.

Garret did not run the defense...at all.

18 interceptions in 2014.
15 interceptions in 2013.
15 interceptions in 2011.

So you are going on record they will have 19 interceptions or more?
I said and/or. :)
We had 11 last year. I'm saying we either will have more than 11 and/or we will have more than in previous years.

And, yes, I'm on the record. :)
