There are situations where it's better to not look back.
- Playing against a elite speed WR with no deep help is one example.
- It can also be dangerous against QB/WR combos that like to run the stop and go route.
There have been some very good CBs that didn't always look back.
The Cowboys have had problems when they didn't look back while covering jump-ball type WRs.
- WRs like Dez in his prime were all about being jump ball WRs.
- Dez didn't win by getting open on great routes and he wasn't a big deep threat.
- He just needed to get reasonable body position and then the ball was thrown up. Some call it a 50-50 ball.
On the flip-side, for a CB covering Amari Cooper, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd priority is not to lose track of him on the field. Looking back can easily get CBs burned vs WRs like Cooper.
