I never blame a player for wanting to get paid if they handle it right
I get holding out with one year left but some have wanted deals much earlier which I don’t like
But players don’t get to pick who they work for and can be locked up for 7 years without having many options
The teams have a ton of control and the players very little in most of their careers

Not much this year but it saves them 3.5 Million in cap room next year.

He was going to count 4.35MM this year (2.5MM Salary, 750K roster bonus, 100K workout bonus).

If he keeps the 3MM signing bonus and it accelerates, they save the 1.35 Million this year.

But 3.5MM would have been guaranteed for the coming years and the team saves that. Sad fact of life, but this move is kind of a non-brainer.

that doesn't look like the case here, so why implement it here? everyone knows it's a business and the Owners have the advantages, the players give it to them during the collective bargaining negotiations.

I think his point is he's made plenty of money. ($121 million for his career) Nobody should feel sorry for his loss of money, you should feel sorry for his loss of the season.

$335,000 saved on the cap this season and no dead money from this point.

I would say that 99% of the posters on here aren't familiar with this contract clause that we are dealing with.

Beat writers are scrambling right now to understand it.

We will have to wait and see what the outcome is for McCoy as far as his final compensation.

As part of the three-year deal Gerald McCoy signed, the Cowboys noted chronic tendonitis in his right knee/quadriceps that would negate the guaranteed money should he suffer that specific injury. He gets to keep the $3 million base salary, but the Cowboys are off the hook for $3.25 million this season in base salary and roster bonus and $1.5 million next year in salary. It’s possible he will be back in 2021 but under a new contract.

That was my original thinking and I hope that is the case. I would trade Crawford and a 5th rounder for Geno Atkins if Cincinatti is willing to take him off his books still.

Apparently this has been done before with Heath Miller in Pitt.

Docs will look at a player and tell the decision makers that a certain body part gives them pause after their examination. They let the player know that they will sign said player with this out in this clause pertaining to the given body part.

Surprising I hadn't heard much about it before. I do like it, as long as the player stays on the teams insurance.
