Your opinion on signing Earl Thomas after week 1

I doubt that Thomas will win that fight. NO guaranteed contract is still guaranteed if the reason for being released is for violating any league or team rules. He broke two rules. He displayed conduct detrimental to team unity when he missed team meetings and also blew some off. This year in the first couple days of camp he argued with coaches and the second rule he broke was when he sucker punched a team mate. He was cut for disciplinary reasons not for play which would have been guaranteed.

I dont care bout the guaranteed $$ bring him in early and put language in the deal to protect yourself. Should have been signed asap. If anyone feels good about x woods and darian thompson starting you are insane

Example:

- If the contract was 8M, then 2M would be guaranteed.

I don't think they're interested in ET at this point.

I think that would only change if they lose game 1 with the top problem being the play of the Safeties and even then it still seems unlikely.

Funny, not ha ha funny, that no other team is interested in him. If he's as good as you think he still is the Cowboys aren't the only team that needs better safeties yet he's still unsigned. Maybe, just maybe it's because he's a head case now and no team wants that.

If he signs for 8M salary with no guaranteed money, then 25% is 2M is cut.

If he signs for 1M plus 7M bonus money, then it's 7M + 25% of 1M = 7.25M if cut.

If he signs a Greg Hardy type contract then it's 1M salary plus 500K per game.
- Even if they did that deal before the season, then only 1M is guaranteed.

Summary: There is no advantage to waiting until after week 1 to sign Earl Thomas.

I was referring to the 1 mil contract but if it's signed before the season the entire salary is 100% guaranteed. The 25% only comes into play if the contract is sign after week 1 and then released later. Like I said if the bonus money isn't guaranteed then the 25% doesn't apply to that.

The posts at CZ on the topic suggest that many people don't know that the team could "protect themselves" without having to wait until after week 1.

Do it. I heard somewhere he's bipolar. If that's true, it explains his behavior. Bipolarism is treatable.

The problem with Thomas is uncertainty. Carr can provide information to limit that uncertainty. He could also lie to us.

If trusted, Carr's input may or may reduce their uncertainty, and may or may not push them over the top to want to sign Thomas or not sign Thomas. But I'd ask for Carr's input and I'd trust him that he's giving his honest assessment.

I think they will sign him. I hope they pay him a very good incentive laden salary for 1 season. I really feel Earl thomas puts this team on anyone's level. The good thing is after week 1, He isnt guaranteed his contract. sign him to a great 1 year deal and let's try to win this thing
 
Jerry and Stephen should discuss this with the team or at least with the leaders on the team. They shouldn't sign him without the team's blessing. And i don't really know, maybe they have discussed it. I just think that making the team part of the decision process would go a long way towards accountability and the team accepting responsibility for the actions of individual players.
