They didnt pay him before the injury and most likely werent paying him after this season even if he werent injured. So unless Dak takes less, hes getting tagged. And now, it will be significantly less
The tag can’t go down
The cap can but the tag still goes up the second time

I just don't see any way he get's tagged again. The optics will be worse for the team than they already were/are.

He'll either get his contract, or the team will move on, IMO.

Agree, the deal will done if no other reason because they came within a few hours last time.

But the original tweet is somewhat clickbaity, Dallas is rolling over 25 Million and if needed, can restructure another 40 Million from DLaw, Cooper, Martin, Collins, etc. Also if I was Donatari Poe I wouldn't be writing checks against the 4MM he is scheduled to make next season.

I meant Dak taking less in terms of a long-term deal.

I DOUBT the same deal will be on the table
I think he’s gonna be offered just as much
And if not for cap issues from this crazy year, he’d be getting more
I don’t think they can tag him
The cost is more than the space we likely will have
We can’t dump any significant cap
Signing is the cheapest short term option and I have no doubt they want to keep him

Like it or not , Dak's contract is all going to depend on where the team finishes............If they win the East , why would the Jones boys be inclined to dole out even more money to retain him ?
If that were to happen you would have to pay Dalton almost the same money. Doesnt make sense to save $5 million at most to get an older, worse qb.

They already cleared the cap space to give Dak the franchise tag next year when they restructured D Law and Zack Martin. The only way they won't have the space is if the salary cap goes down due to COVID but that would be catastrophic for half the teams in the league. Most likely they will borrow against future cap increases to keep the salary cap the same.

Glad you are not the GM.

And your would brought us a superbowl?

The biggest mistake was not letting #9 take back over once he returned 100%

I wanted Dak- looking back i was wrong.....contrary to popular belief around here Dak hasn't won anymore than the previous

Not sure

You losing me Willie (lol) ........why on earth would Dak sign a long-term deal for less than $37M he's guaranteed to make on the tag.
Nah im saying Dak’s 2 options next season will be:

1. Franchise Tag at $37m

2. a 4 year extension with about $100m guaranteed ($33-$35m aav)

He didnt want a 4 year deal last season because he wants to come back to the table after 2022, so why would he accept a 4 year deal next year that would lock him up until 2024?

He will play on the tag as I dont think Jerry will all a sudden cave to the amount of years he wants

I don’t know what’s happening with cap
Best case I think it stays the same

I think Dak will get a deal.

It may or may not be with the cowboys.

he either signs a deal
Long term with the cowboys. Or
Gets tagged and traded.

I’m interested to see his demands this off season

Honestly..... this experience may change his outlook. Perhaps he takes a more team friendly deal than he originally wanted? Because he now knows what it’s like to lose his spot and not play?

What if Dak says. Ok ya know what. I’ll do the 5 years for 35 like y’all offered last season. Do the cowboys take it?

gonna be interesting see what happens.

I mean Dak may not want to play on the tag again after this experience. Who could blame
Him. So does he come
Down a bit on his asking price to prevent that? I could see it happening.

of course there’s also the factor of how dalton plays. If dalton struggles. It grows Dak’s leverage. If dalton plays very well... it really hurts it.

it’s very interesting situation.
