i am sorry but paying Dak is out of the question next year.whats the point of a watching a team crumbling around him one more year. This Defense needs major Fa talent to even be a recognizable NFL defense..
Just wait until you hear Jerry's spin on this this, Dak will be paid and Jerry will be selling SB again, it is a endless cycle in Dallas. This is what happens when a football idiot runs a franchise with no repercussions for failure year after year.

Dak is not a top ten QB. He is very average and we cant afford to pay him way above average because we need a rebuild at OL and Defense. Its time to cut bait with Prescott.
I'd point to statistics but you'd say they don't matter....

We simply have too many holes to pay Dak 35+ mill a year. We need to rebuild our OL and Defense. We might as well rebuild at the QB position as well.
The ridiculous statement. Prescott is what runs this team this franchise.Defense was the only issue when I put that on coaching

Honestly, if you look at how teams are built thesedays its most always with a young QB on tthe cheap. Once you pay the QB the your entire cap structure changes and the QB has to be a difference maker because you're not going to be able to stockpile a lot of high priced vets around them.

As I think the 2nd person in the thread said even building around a 25m Tom Brady isn't easy as TB had a lot of talent but lacked the elite QB.

For me if I were in charge of Dallas you could build it either way (pay Dak/let him walk bank picks). Personally, I would go with full rebuild (trade Zeke) because I think there's a lot wrong with Dallas that can't be patched over. I think you treadmill doing that. take the short term pain and wipe the slate clean and build anew.

Then there are the financials.......

The Cowboys aren't going to fix all the holes on offense and defense in one draft and then no Prescott means that they also won;t have the QB that has taken the Cowboys to be the #1 offense in the NFL too. So ya you're idea just adds more problems to have to fix. Ideas like that will keep the Cowboys down for longer not shorter.

No you trade Cooper. You keep CD and Gallup

CD dropped like four passes today that hit him right in the hands.

On the flip side of the coin, if we pay the best player, then the holes remain open and he wont be able to do much with it anyway. It's not like he is Brady and we have Billicheat as a coach.

How was Dallas able to give Dak in 2016 a "Championship Roster" with a Tony Romo's massive deal still on the books? How did Dallas give Tony Romo the biggest contract in NFL history and by 2016 had, according to most, a roster soooo loaded that a terrible Rookie QB like Dak Prescott could be Rookie of the Year?

How did that occur?

This myth that we can’t pay Dak and still field a Super Bowl contender has become tiresome. And is based more on ignorant fan B.S than it is fact.
Dak is every bit capable of leading a good team to a Super Bowl win. And it can be done with the high contract that a top 5-10 QB is going to demand. And yes. He’s not Mahomes but he is a high level QB.
That contract can be structured to leave enough room to surround him with the talent they can get from high draft picks next year. That is. If they use those picks and maybe a couple of mid level free agents correctly. They have what is needed on offense to compete with anyone when they are healthy. The o line will be back next year. It won’t be the line we had a couple of years ago. But it can be one of the better lines in the NFL. With OT the only position not on defense that has to be addressed in the draft or off season free agency.

If the concern is the front office won’t be able to draft well enough to do that. Then what does it matter if they decide to move away from Dak? The same front office will be making the decisions to field a team around a new QB. If they can’t figure out how to build a consistent winner around Dak and the contract he’s going to get. Be it here or somewhere else. They don’t deserve to be running an NFL team. I promise you. There are plenty of front offices out there that would figure it out.

The problem isn’t Dak. The problems are much, much deeper. We saw them when we had Romo who was talented enough at the position to go much further than they ever did. And those problems are the ones we have to hope get corrected before any of us are going to see the success we’ve been waiting 25 plus years on.
I wouldn’t recommend holding your breath.......

If you go by the "You can't get paid because we're bad in several areas".......see Dak in a different uniform next year, and he garnering Player of the Week when he plays JJ's circus.

He is a bus driver who puts up a lot of yrds and points in garbage time. Hes really nothing special. You guys act like he is Mahomes or something.

Why can't rocket arm andy put up tons of yards in garbage time?
How is taking the lead or making the game a one score game garbage time?

Yeah so did Gallup past games. So did Cooper. And many others. And Elliot push the ball on the ground. No you don’t trade a guy his first season
