Do we even need a top 5 defense with Dak leading the offense?

With Dak and a healthy offense having the capability to put up 37 points a game, could we be a contender with an average defense? Is Jerry capable? How many drafts would it take to improve the defense enough to make us a true contender?

Maybe not but we need a better than one of the worst in NFL history though.

The defense needs an overhaul and that includes crap canning the mediocre DC. He is one of a few hurdles to building a good defense to pair with a high flying offense.

Given the remaining defense vs the sieves they'd already faced, I think they would've averaged in the 29-30 range if everyone was healthy.
But that's beside the point
That should be enough with an average defense to make a run.

No. We need a leader. Someone that cares. The rest will fall in line. I honestly think one blue chipper and some decent blue collar guys with the right leader fixes a lot of the problems. That’s why I want parsons. His leadership and never quit attitude. Plus he’s a star

A top 5 pick would be a great start. Hopefully we get one stud lineman and another starter with our 2nd round pick this year. Done right, we could do it in two off seasons. But they have to get rid of the Lawrence and Jaylon contracts after next season.

Biadasz needs to be good at center and one of McGovern, Williams, Knight needs to wind up being a legitimate starter going forward. If we have to rebuild the middle of that Iline then it will take longer to rebuild the D.

The last 25+ years of superbowl champions indicate a different story. Now I'm not saying its not possible however does not make for a bold strategy. Most finish within top 10 of both offense and defense

98 Broncos 2(o) 13(d)
09 Saints 2(o) 16(d)
11 giants 9(o) 24(d)

00 ravens, 02 bucs, 03 Patriots, 08 steelers, 15 Broncos all had medicore to bad offenses(16+) but had either all number one or two defense in football

next year I want Mike to call plays and a new aggressive DC like Arizona has.

Parsons and possibly a safety with the 2nd pick?

Arizona has Peterson at CB. Did you see them picking on the OTHER guy all night long? got torched by Locket for like 200 yards and 3 TD's. Whatever they were doing on defense didn't work.

They also have the best safety in the NFL Budda baker. He was the guy they kept blitzing and had the 90 yard pick. Although I did like what they were doing at the end there to confuse Wilson.

A minimum level of defense is needed to win a championship. Not sure where the line is drawn.

The Cowboys have not had that minimum level in a long long time!

Seattle has been doing that to everyone. Funny thing is we actually had the lead in that game with 4 minutes left. That seems like 2 years ago now!!!

no you don't....

just see KC....2018, they averaged about 35 points a game, with a defense that was ranked 31st...25th in points allowed

in 2019, KC averaged 28 pts per game and their defense was middle of the pack and they won the superbowl...

so no, you need a decent, predictable defense that can make stops at critical times and get off the field. one that has good percentage on 3rd down conversions and can get some turnovers to shorten the field for your offense

Russ is a freak of nature, only he can lead a team defensively challenged to a ring. I do not think at this point we/anybody can assume this offense will be a healthy unit next year, or in two years as a matter of fact. Tyron cannot be trusted, Martin is a beast but the last couple of seasons could be a sign of him wearing down. Collins? Who is he exactly? We have more question marks than a childrens book.

Now more than ever we need a brand new set of players/coaches for that stench, and it won't come under this ownership group unfortunately

No. You wouldn’t need a top 5. Honestly, you would need a middle of the pack defense but one that also forces turnovers.

that’s the true key.

if you have a top 5 offense and a defense that forces an average number of turnovers. You can win a Super Bowl.
