Total rebuilds in the nfl are rarely needed. You get a good HC/QB combo and you can field a decent team year after year.

Especially in today's game, you go full fire sale, grab a bunch of picks, but by the time you rebuild you have to pay everyone and the process starts over.

The cowboys have 2 issues. First is a culture issue. The second is the cap. The culture issue can be fixed in an offseason if they actual commit. The cap is what worries me.

4 years when if you’re offense is healthy they’re scoring 30 a game?

I’m thinking more like 2 years for rebuilding the D and finding Tyron’s eventual replacement

It's not that simple. There are different dynamics at play.

Everyone could get healthy and we put together 1 maybe 2 more good years with this team but I doubt it.

Tyron can't stay healthy.

Martin is starting to get banged up.

Your QB wants 40 million a year or close to it.

Your RB makes a ton of money.

Your right tackle just had hip surgery.

Your 20 million dollar WR is about as feast or famine as it gets and makes business decisions on possession routes.

Your defense has virtually no talent and guys on that no talent defense were given contracts.

This team is a mess and if the goal is to win a Superbowl then we are a long way off.

If you want to be mediocre then sure..We can be mediocre. We've mastered mediocrity.
And all of that falls on Dak, is that right?

I don't buy that.

Say Tyron & La'el's surgeries go well and they're ready next year. You're O line is sound.

We're fine at WR, RB. We get Jarwin back at TE. Figure out what you're doing at QB (draft pick or Dak) & offense is good.

Defense is more difficult. However, depending at what we do at QB, we'll either have a high draft pick or good cap space to work with. May not be a top ten defense, but I do expect improvement here especially with a full off-season (hopefully) & growth of Diggs.
You're 100% right, but you are counting on a lot of ifs. You get pro bowl caliber LT, RT, and QB back next year, but im not sure you can just trust they all come back and are at 100% .

If you dont look to rebuild thats the way you have to go, and invest all resourced in your defense this offseason.

I like Jesse but that statement makes no sense. No team in this NFL era plans for a 4 year rebuild. No credible source within the organization who is making real decisions would make such a statement.

Agree, and Jesse has been known to make some pretty outlandish statements. Especially when he first started his sports analyst career. He got better. But I question his source. Seems a lot of creativity in this "opinion" from both he and his source.

Not one person in the team FO or on the team is going to tell him this.
It could be coming from Jane Slater. :muttley:

He’s right. The current window is closed. There are no quick fixes.

They’re gonna have to retool like the Saints did with Brees, Seahawks with Russ, Steelers with Ben. Move on from overpaid underproducing players like Zeke and Jaylon. Draft well. And hopefully you’re a contender in 3-4 years.

Agree but we got massive problems.

WE have no cap space after Dak is signed.

The players we paid are aging and might give us 1 more good year if they can all stay healthy and play well.

Paying Dak locks this thing down into mediocrity for certain so we may not get the draft picks needed to do anything but stay mediocre.

Dallas has huge problems. It's just a reality. We need to lose and we need to cut some guys.

That's why I say the best thing that could happen is drafting Trevor Lawrence somehow.

What you're saying may be true. Im not arguing the state of the team and salary cap challenges. My point is that Jerry, Stephen, Charlotte, Jerry Jr. or whatever Jones is in the building, they're not discussing or making future roster decisions aligned with a 4 year or even 3 year rebuild plan. I'm fairly certain of that...

Every situation is different. Dallas primarily needs defense. A lot of the money is tied up on offense. Especially if the Cowboys pay Dak. Which they may have to. We're looking at a similar d for at least a year or two more. Hopefully with a bit more effort. But I definitely don't see this Cowboys team being championship caliber within the next couple of years. Not a chance.

Listen.. You guys and your straw man arguments..

Dak is a good player.

He's not overcoming all of this while getting paid like he is Patrick Mahomes.. Got it?

He's good but he's not good enough for the money he wants. Paying him is a 1 way ticket to mediocreville and you guys will applaud it while it happens and then cry about everything around him not being enough.

This team needs to trade away any player not named Z. Martin and L. Collins for as many picks as they possibly can.

Rebuild?:lmao:When can you name the last time we had a successful rebuild? I'll help you. Jimmy Johnson and maybe Bill Parcells. Neithier is stepping through that Star door so 22 years and counting. Good Luck.
True....Bill brings in D Ware and Spears in one swoop!

Dude, I'd love for Lawrence to be here. But there's no way we out-suck the Jets. I don't see how they get a win this year. Adam Gase makes Jason Garrett look like a Hall Of Fame head coach.

With all the bad teams out there right now. We will be lucky to pick 8th with even 3 wins, which I do believe we get 1 or 2 more wins by default.

Here lies the reason why we're at 25 years now.

The offense is set, once you get the injured back. I would however try to trade Cooper and save some $ there. Gallup, CD and #11 are good to go. On defense, you cut Jaylon or see if you can sucker a team to give you a bag of chips and a corn dog ofr him. Bite the bullet on the cap hit. Lawrence needs to go, but his cap hit is too big. Approach him about a salary cut, or wait a year to cut him. Crawford, Lee, Gregory, Griffen, Poe, Chido, Woods, and every other poor player on defense need to be cut. I'm not sure what the savings are from these cuts, but minimum salary players can be just a s aweful as these high priced players, for less costs.

Lots of folks here want this to be a reason to cut Dak, but that is the only sure thing you have.

I think a team would have to purposely lose to us.

We can't protect the QB at all.. Like at all.

We also can't play defense at all.. Like at all.

You throw in a 7th round rookie QB and thats a recipe to not win another game the rest of the year which is the best thing that could happen to this team.
