Every player should be “available” for the right price

I'm still not clear on how the dead money works on a trade as opposed to a release.

Hard to comment on trades without knowing that.

I really dont see a major housecleaning here anyway.

Jerry wants to take a run next year. I wont not believe that until I see some higher end activity.

Trading Griffen and cutting a couple of dudes that had no business being in the league anyway doesnt qualify.
Over the cap is a good sight
You can compare release or trade
The cap is complicated

My question is after they cut the cap, how will the franchise tag be effected? I would think they will have to do something to reduce the tag number if the cap is cut. & I have no idea how a cap cut will effect all salaries. Will every player salary just get reduced by a percentage? Will the players strike if this happens? I don't know.... Is it legal to reduce salaries in a pandemic and cap cut year?
I don’t see them cutting the cap
But the cap has been rising and contracts have been designed for a rising cap
I expect them to figure a way to basically keep it the same
But that could mean it stays level for multiple years
I just don’t think you can cut it or some teams could be in massive trouble

Not all players. I believe the Cowboys should build a young team around Dak (if possible), Gallup, Lamb, Diggs, and Martin. Everyone else can be traded if possible.

The Cowboys organization is in a state of change, after seeing the team consistently under perform this season and the defense be historically bad. That’s not all a bad thing.

During the Garrett years the team mired in mediocrity. We usually beat bad teams and lost to teams over .500. There were exceptions, of course.

MM comes along, and we start making a few changes. On the other hand, MM’s player shopping spree was limited mostly to the bargain bin, due to the checkbook being mostly empty after Jerry paid Tank, Jaylon, Zeke and others.

Where we are now is we can either go searching for a QB (which is anything but an exact science) or probably over pay a little to keep Dak. Which way we go will depend on Dak. Dak may have this team over a barrel, but at some point, you have to take the barrel.

The fact that Dak tried to take the deal we had on the table tells you that Jerry offered enough money that Dak should have taken it. Dak just waited too long to take it.

Herschell Walker was moved for picks back in the day. That trade—giving up the franchise’s best player—turned this team around and took us from the worst team in the league to three (and should have been 4) Super Bowls.

I see posters saying we should be trading Amari because our defense is so bad. That really makes no sense. What does make sense is parting with Amari for the right price. It would be better to do it in another year or so, due to dead money, but if you get an offer that makes your team better you do the deal now.

This team is going to have some significant challenges if they pay Dak, and I think they will. Oddly enough Dak may have more leverage after he was injured than before, on the other hand he also has the reality that the next play could be his last in the fore front of his mind. I think we will get Dak signed and I think Dak will, oddly enough, be more reasonable than pre injury.

My prediction with Dak is we will sign him, and we will over pay somewhat to keep him. On the other hand, if Dak gives us the barrel, Jerry may take the barrel. It is in all parties’ interest to get something done.

I think you will see this team turn around pretty quickly. Sooner than you think. We have some really good players and a really bad culture here. Garrett would have waited until the season was over to make a move. MM shipped out 3 starters on defense this week. We haven’t seen anything like that since Jimmy Johnson.

Every player should be “on the trading block” for the right price. That’s how bad teams get better.

Young players are hungry players. Hungry players tend to over perform their ability. Let’s let these young guys get some experience and give the coaches a chance to evaluate them. Churn the roster. Poach practice squad guys when possible.

If you approach the roster dispassionately you tend to make better decisions. Do you want a feel good story, or a winner? I’ll take the winner every time.

The one thing that does concern me is that we have had guys on this board clammoring to replace Worley and Poe for weeks. Why it took the Cowboys so long to move on from them (by not giving other players more snaps) is beyond me.

Here's what I see as problems with your cure. We've already seen what happens when inexperienced players get to play, ie the offensive line, the secondary. There is only one really strong or deep position on this team and that's the WR's.so if they are included in players who can be traded and are traded just who when Prescott come back will be be throwing to.

The Walker trade was a once in a couple of generational trades and the league hasn't seen a trade like that since so to even hint that the Cowboys should trade players because of what happened with the Walker trade is dreaming like you never dreamed before.

Everybody knows it's going to take several years before the Cowboys are contenders again but starting over with nothing but young inexperienced players will only make it take that much longer. What you want to do is to repeat the decade long misery the browns went through.

Dak will have to prove before the draft that his ankle is healing correctly and he will have no issues with it in the future. Everyone assumes it’s just like an ACL and it will be a year.

They can’t risk signing him long term if it’s not fixed.

What has happened in the past, should happened, designed to happen, etc....was all thrown out the window in 2020. Ratings are down across all sports, most stadiums have limited or no fans in seats, and two of the top ratings draws (Cowboys and Pats) are playing horrible. The biggest market in sports has 1 win between 2 of their teams. It's a recipe for total financial disaster for the league. And now they are talking about 2021 being similar. They can try to ride out the storm for a few years, but there is no doubt that networks aren't going to pay massive fees if this keeps up.

There is already an agreement in place for 2021, but the number is not known. Somewhere in the 177m to 186m range is likely based off revenue. That is significant drop from this year, and a massive 35m drop from what the teams expected before Covid hit. You are forgetting the carryover allowance to help offset this drop. So basically teams can get back to this year, but bringing over the extra cap space. But the cap number is a huge issue, and one I think will be reflected in 2021 free agency. There are already a lot of teams in trouble moving forward, and the Cowboys are already in a bad situation. Unless the revenue does better than expected, I just don't see how or why you sign Dak and bring him back to this mess. That cap concerns of these overpaid players are only going to get worse.

I’m guessing they borrow from future earnings to prop up the cap
But that cost each team down the road because that revenue borrow would be spread out
I’m guessing the teams know the plan

Reason must be employed. If someone offered you two firsts for CeeDee would you accept it? If someone offered you a first and a third for Cooper would you take it? If someone wanted Martin would you part with him for two first round picks? If someone offered you five first round picks and five second round picks for Dak would you take it?

Every player has a price at which you should move on from him. I’m not suggesting these are reasonable offers, I am suggesting that in each of these scenarios even though you wouldn’t want to part with a player you would probably do so.

If a team doesn’t offer you something that you want for a player, turn it down. I am not suggesting we start fire selling players in return for magic beanstalk beans.

You shouldn’t get emotional about players. For instance the Texans have placed JJ Watt on the not tradeable list, because he is a beloved player and the face of the franchise. But he is exactly the type of player they should be trying to move on from. Older, injured, good trade value currently. The Patriots would be shipping him out for a premium pick which is why they have so many Super Bowls.

Except for zeke , zack and amari.

Yep. Always.

But the right price *for us* isn't just about the player, but about our other options on the team. The right price goes up if giving up a player leaves us with a big hole, and goes down if we can easily backfill. We're trying to build a team, not collect talent.

Unless they're already in talks to sign him to a good deal, I'd cash out ASmith. Lawrence, Gregory, Anae, and Armstrong are all signed for next year. I don't see us competing in free agency for ASmith.

Also, easy to backfill Gallup. He's already been passed by Lamb. Sell him while some team might still consider him a potential 1st. Lots of talk of that earlier this year. His *numbers* from last year looked like a potential 1st.

Peak Gallup was a couple of weeks ago. Sell now.

This is another Tashard Choice moment. Sell him while people still might be buying high.

I’m with you on all of this. I’m torn on Gallup. He is an interesting player. Personally I think he’s a better player than Amari. I would rather keep him than Amari.

Having said that, sell high. If someone gives you something you can’t turn down, then take it and move on.

And the same problem as I just said. A bunch of players with no NFL experience playing and that is going to cure all the problems the Cowboys have? Have you not learned a thing from what the Browns did for a decade? High draft picks and thinking because they a a team full of high picks that it was going to turn them into Super Bowl winners but all it did was make them get high picks every year. Maybe, just maybe the value a team places on some of those players is so high knowing no team will ever offer it therefore making them untradeable. Oh one more thing to think about. There's that nasty thing called a cap. I guess this is one of the zillion reasons we NEVER hear of a some fan expressing his plans on a message board ever gets hired as a NFL team's GM.

The offense doesn't need a rebuild. It just needs some pieces on the O-line. The Defense needs to be gutted and unfortunately I don't see one single cog to build around. There needs to be a total and complete philosophy change on that side of the ball. We need 10+ draft picks and 8 of them need to go to defense. One higher pick for the Oline and that's it...

Just looking at the title if this thread. Of course everyone has a price. You're offered something you can refuse, go for it. My question is this though, do you plan to replace everyone with draft picks, an unproven commodity? It's time for McCarthy to figure out who are the guys who love football. It's also time to trim the fat.

I’m sorry, but that’s not really a very sound thought process. The Cowboys super bowl teams started out with very young players and they grew together as a team. They went from 1-15 to multiple SB champs in just a couple of years, mainly because of the game experience they received as young, inexperienced players.

The cream rises to the top. Sometimes a young player is still a wolf.

Better find a really solid LT in the immediate future.

Expecting things to change while the Jones boy's run the show is like that definition of Insanity..Doing the same things over and over again expecting different results.
