I think we’re just hyping up yards against bad pass defenses.. Dak always does well against crap pass defenses.

What we need is a QB who is a difference maker and just not along for the ride for the type of money he wants.

Our defense has been below average including last year. 19th in DVOA

For 150 years of football teams have been trying to stop the run and make teams 1 dimensional.
Stopping the pass matters a lot because it's usually the "big play" that gets replayed 100 times on SportsCenter
But if you can't stop the run the other team controls every facet of the game including clock mgmt, down and distance and what they do each play.

When you suck versus the pass you can often play zone and then once they cross the 30 the area is smaller and easier to defend.
When you suck versus the run they smash you into the end zone.

I believe we were top 5 the year before.

We’ve never just had a terrible defense. Terrible at taking the ball away? Sure.. But we’ve been really good at not giving up big plays..


Regardless of all that it doesn’t matter.. This is about Dak.. Sure he will be great if we provide him with an all world supporting cast.. But he has to overcome things for the money he wants. He can’t just keep doing what he has been doing. He needs to be an enforcer on the field and not a high end bus driver.

This is why I want a rebuild of the defense, but not a rebuild of the entire team. Hitting on a couple of key defensive free agents, good draft focusing mostly on defense and we could be right in the mix, as long as our health holds on offense.

All of the rest are still on rookie deals anyways or HOF players on a paycut to try and win.

We need to fix the offensive line. Our defense hasn't been really good in ages. When we've held teams to low scores it was usually because we dominated TOP. We could run at will and the opposing offense didn't have as many chances to score. Of course, we also need some playmaker on D if we ever want to make the Super Bowl.

I wasn’t aware of how much the QBs salary impacted the teams chances at that time. Had I been of course I’d be against it.

Im a Cowboy fan and I want championships.. Nothing about paying Dak and what I’ve seen from him on the field gives me any reason to believe he gets us to a championship. I believe it just firmly locks us into mediocrity.

I am beginning to wonder if there is a Cowboy fan out there that can discuss this team without using words like, could have, would have or should have to make the team sound better then they really are. Face it, this team has stunk since 1996 no matter who was playing QB.
The only option is simple. For once you finally blow the team up, draft one of the top 5 QB's out of next years draft. Rebuild the defense by the money you dont pay Dak and maybe in 2-3 years we will have a team good enough to at least take the field every Sunday and make a respectable game out of it.

This is what I figured you would say..so it's a flaw in your understanding of how to win..you are overly reliant on this new "trend" of winning on rookie deals..

Jimmy G - Super bowl
Brees - NFCCG should have went to SB
Tannehill has his team at 5-1 right now
Big Ben has his team 6-0 right now
Of course mahomes is elite..but he got paid..they're the best in the game..
Rodgers nfccg last year - 5-1 right now probably 6-1 soon..
Wilson on a big contact..of course he's elite too..they're darn good
Tb is probably the best team in the nfc according to many..Brady got paid

You have this hardline stance as if it's written in stone that there is only one way to win..it's beyond flawed...

As a matter of fact...there are waaaaay more contending teams w qbs on big contracts than teams w qbs not on big contracts..

I don’t think @xwalker is suggesting an all world defense is needed (although that would be nice) he is just suggesting with Dak, an average defense might be more than enough to win a SB.
