Diggs has as many career picks in 8 games as Byron had in 88. Just in case anyone was wondering if it was wise to let him walk. It was.

I'm not sure couching this as a an either/or situation is accurate - the question with Jones was only the contract, and if the Cowboys had felt they could comfortably handle that there is no reason the team couldn't have had both Diggs and Jones.

In any case, Diggs also has let guys beat him badly on deep routes more in a short time than Byron did, so there is a trade off. The positive take though is that Diggs is young and there is both the hope and expectation that he will improve on that front with time. Byron had probably reached his ceiling.

You could easily argue that Byron isn’t worth the money he got. As of right now though jones > diggs. I’ll take the shutdown performance over two picks while also getting burnt multiple times. A cb rotation of diggs, jones, awuzie, and brown is extremely strong.

Is jones a better player in 2021? 2022? I’m hopeful not. Diggs certainly has the pure talent to surpass him. Looking at it in terms of straight ints is a waste though.

diggs needs to be better in stopping the pass, he has given up way more long pass plays and TDs than Jones...picks are good, but giving up big plays and TDs are exactly the opposite.

May have allowed as many TDs and big plays in 8 games as Byron, also.
Its true but Diggs is a rookie. This is the time to make mistakes. Byron also never had the luxury of playing with the worst defense of all time or in Nolan's scheme either.
Or.

We could have had Jones on one side and Diggs on the other.

Interceptions are a horrible way of judging CBs.
ITs a horrible way to gauge a corner but when it comes to paying 17 million per year...I need you to make plays. I don't care in what form or fashion.

Byron would've been nice if ANYONE could make plays but no one could. Just a bad mix.

So can we also be honest about Jones? He didn't shut down a side of the field he shut down whoever he was guarding..if a team wanted their #1 receiver to go off they would just put him elsewhere because Byron wouldn't follow him. I like Byron but there are a few misconceptions about him. I think Diggs has a much higher ceiling.

It really is funny how people complain about this team lacking talent but then would throw digs at Jones. Jones was a very, very, very, very, very good CB. Denying that is hilarious.

I liked Byron, but his lack of playmaking was the difference making aspect which kept him from being resigned in my opinion.

There was a play in the second half of yesterday’s game where Digg’s, knowing he had help in back of him, broke on a pass in the flat that he almost picked it off.

I ask you this...in Byron’s time in Dallas when did you ever see him break and jump on a route?

Diggs is going to take his lumps and correct some of the issues; it’s part of every young player’s development. What I have seen are instincts and playmaking ability. I’ve also been very pleasantly surprised with his willingness to tackle.

Byron Jones although few interceptions was a shutdown type corner not someone who is hit or miss as Diggs is usually 5 yards behind his receiver
