I was in the keep Byron crowd, but it’s over, no need to go back.

with the state of the team right now, I’m not sure signing him would have been the right move. Another major contract would have us in total cap hell in an offseason where this defense needs multiple pieces added.

Just a flat out shame that it took the previous coaching staff three years to figure out he was better at CB than Safety.

That may have proven his value and perhaps the front office would have prioritized him over Zeke.

We drafted Zeke over Ramsey and paid Zeke over Byron. Cowboys secondary with Ramsey and Byron would be amazing.
Not true. Zeke was signed way before Byron. Thats like saying we paid Crawford over Byron. What about Jaylon over Byron, or D Law over Byron?

Has Byron even done anything this season? He has been injured as much as he played. I don't remember all the Byron love the last few years around here.

Elliott was under contract. They shouldn't have buckled and overpaid him because Jerry got nervous.

Jones has played in 60% of the snaps for the Dolphins, so he has been nicked up but still has played a lot of snaps. He was a very good CB here. He didn't intercept the ball so people thought he stunk, I guess. Although even I would have had a hard time paying that much for Jones in FA.

Byron was still under contract when we paid Zeke. Maybe Amari Cooper over Byron since they both make the same amount and were both free agents at the same time.

Your argument makes no sense at all..Zeke was also under contract when he got signed..so what..Jones being paid was a topic of discussion for multiple years..not just one of season

Easy to say this in hindsight. I had no issue letting Byron go, but felt we had an opportunity to work out deals with other players and franchised the odd man out for additional trade compensation.

I have always like Byron Jones, and never liked the early move to Safety. But I would not have paid Zeke with two years left on his contract and made an effort to sign Jones. Maybe not offer what he got from Miami but I would have made an attempt to get him signed. I watched that Miami game yesterday and their secondary is very good, But as someone has already mentioned, he's gone, and it's time to move on.
