I was screaming at the TV when they took that waste of space Taco, who's not even in the NFL now, which makes it even worse to fathom

I've been here, just been hanging out on the favorite songs page
This is true. Although I wouldn't vouch... you know, out of principle.

It seems unlikely we'd have had 3 SB wins in 4 years if someone else had bought the team. We have no idea if we be high on the hog or mired in an even worse swamp.

If someone else brought the team and hired Jimmy Johnson to the run the show ... yeah, we would have won 3 or more SB's.

Better fit ?
i keep hearing that,.. yet we had no qualms about drafting a 237 pound Randy Gregorycoming out of Nebraska to be an expected 4-3 DE in the NFL ?

That is what they said. It was a scheme fit. Was Watt playing the 3-4 in college?

In honesty in regards to Taco vs Watt... Taco was the better fit but Watt was the better player.

Taco had lots of flags on him. He was a fit for the mystique of the Dline Whisperer, but far from a fit as a RKG.

I would have bet on the genes and demonstrated abiltiy. Watt had much more accomplishment as a pass rusher than Taco. Even as a pass rush specialist, he was the better choice.

I doubt it.

First, whoever bought the team probably wouldn't have hired Jimmy. He and Jerry were friends, which is why Jerry brought him in. I could be wrong, but I don't think hiring college coaches was in vogue at that time.

Second, I doubt anyone else would've been willing to spend the money Jerry did to improve the team, back before the age of the salary cap.

Third, I'm not sure the Walker deal would've been done without Jerry. I know it was Jimmy's brainchild, but it's entirely possible the different owner wouldn't have been willing to give up Walker, plus I think Jerry's salesmanship had something to do with the Vikings going for it.

Obviously anything anyone states is speculative at this point, but I personally don't see things playing out the way they did, without Jerry.

So you think anyone else would have gone with a RB for that pick? It seems unlikely to me that the same needs would have been felt by another owner and coach, and also very, very unlikely another owner would have been willing to shell out the money Jerry did for the other players.

I think Jimmy was a package deal in Jerry's eyes, and thus the team was built much differently than it otherwise would have been, even if all three triplets were still here.
I'll take my chances with Irvin and Aikman and another coach and owner.

I was personally fully ready for what Aikman may have done for the end of Landrys career.

I have little doubt that the team had the success they did because of Jimmy's contributions, but please dont try to tell me we wouldnt be much better off now than having a 78 year old oil man and his nitwit kid in charge for the rest of our lives.

Dont try it. Just stop.

Watt at 252 pounds (per NFL combine) was playing the edge as a 3-4 OLB at Wisconsin - just as Gregory at 237 pounds (per NFL combine)
was playing the edge as a DE in the 4-3 at Nebraska.-

Edge guys like that are interchangeable:
Ware was both a 3-4 OLB and a 4-3 DE with the Cowboys ...as Charles Haley was both an OLB in the 3-4 (niners) and a 4-3 DE (Cowboys)

Should we be passing interchanegable impact edge rushers because of fit scheme ?

i hated Taco's college tape - especially when projecting him to the edge as a 4-3 end. He was sloooow off the snap off the ball.
And first step get off was supposed to be a must with Marinelli rush men, .but he was just the opposite with that.

Nobody was happy with Taco. A pure position pick. Not *that* much of a stretch for the pick, but plenty of reasons to be unhappy with it too.
