As you guys know I'm one of Dak's biggest fans around here but I think Stephen is speaking as if he doesn't get the 1st pick. If they get the 1st pick I don't see a scenario where they don't take Lawrence. I'm like 60/40 on it. The pick should be defense but I don't trust this front office to make the right pick.

If we have the #1 pick taking anyone but Lawrence would be a huge mistake...he's literally the best QB prospect in many decades. Obviously nothing is certain but if you have a chance at a talent like that when your franchise QB isn't signed long term then you better do it.

I would be utterly stunned and disappointed if we have the #1 pick and don't take him. It would be the dumbest move I've ever seen this FO make and I've seen a lot of stupid moves.

TLaw is so ******** overrated. His backup is better than him. And his backup has played 2 games.

I personally disagree. Anytime people start talking about “the best prospect...” that makes me nervous because that rarely is the case. I heard Mariota and Winstotn were can’t miss prospects.

Pretty sure we are the only team that will basically tells you what the team is going to do before the time comes.

We will cut player - unless we get trade offer for them
We will not draft a QB - 6 months prior to the draft, before we know what pick or who will be there

I stated nothing was certain with Lawrence he very well could be the biggest bust in history but I'd take Lawrence and 40m to put into the defense over Dak and our regular picks and I love Dak, I am a huge fan of his. We aren't 1-2 players away right now, it's not even close. But 5 year rookie contract for a potentially even just decent QB I'd take so we could put more money into other parts of our team.

What happens if Dak decides to go to a legitimate football team and one not in the rebuilding process?

Maybe he just know that they already have their next contract offer ready and think they will have Dak signed long before the draft. Maybe he doesn’t want to let Dak walk for nothing because there’s no tagging Dak and trading him if we have the 1-2 or even 3 draft pick. Once they tag Dak and he signs, they cannot walk that back, and they cannot draft a top of the draft QB and pay both guys. And who would give #1 picks for a player when they know Dallas has to let him walk for nothing if they want a new draft.

This nearly guarantees Lawrence will be available at their pick.
Hahahaha probably...but you know what? if he is? We get a kings ransom so either way win win. I'd take Lawrence but I'd be almost as happy if we traded his rights away for a truck load of picks.

I have no problem with Prescott.

I think the Joneses are so inept that that's probably the wrong move....just because of that.

I personally think Dak will end up signing here but this really means nothing in the grand scheme of things

Dear Stephen,

The only answer on this subject should be "We will consider all options right up until the minute the selection is made".

P.S. - that means from now until the pick is made, you should indicate nothing about your mindset to the media or other teams.
Unless it's a ruse! :omg::laugh:

We won’t have a top 2 pick anyway and that’s what it will take to get a QB. We’ll pick 4th-6th and should get an elite defensive prospect.
7 or 8 games left for all 32 teams
1 team with 0 wins
1 team with 1 win
6 teams with 2 wins (not including Cowboys)
6 teams with 3 wins
That 4th-6th pick, or even a top 10 spot - is far from being a lock for Dallas.
Even though the Cowboys are on a bye, there's a good chance five of the
2-win teams will lose Sunday: four are on the road, with three facing opponents with winning records. The 5th matchup is Eagles at Giants.
The sixth 2-win team is the Patriots...surely they pick up win no. 3 tonight.

They have been pretty good with 1st round picks.

This approach makes no sense. So they aren't "even close" yet you would draft Trevor Lawrence and have him cheap for a few years just to be in the same predicament you are in now. Free agency is not saving this team so this whole "I have 40 million to put into the defense" isn't going to result into anything. Its going to result in the same thing they did this offseason. Bargain shopping. It all sounds good in theory but its not a reality.

As it stands, the Cowboys are in position to have a top-five pick in the draft next spring, but quarterback will not be among the team’s priorities, according to Stephen Jones. The Cowboys have wanted to re-sign Dak Prescott all along and could us the franchise tag at a cost of $37.7 million. “Dak is our quarterback and we’re so fired up about him and him leading us in the future,” Jones said.
