Nolan also kind of dumbed it down as well. I wouldn't say they're "clicking" as much as they're making adjustments.

I think Nolan realized finally that "read and react" doesn't work with players that have been coached by Rod Marinelli for a half decade. We also had no variety in our coverages Sunday which made Romo lose his mind on the broadcast.

I've said since week two the defense would improve a lot when they finally settled into the scheme, which is both Nolan and the players.

Also Bob Sturm makes the point that since LVE got back the number of assignment breakdowns has gone from a lot to a little, which he thinks is the biggest factor.

and as I said "kid" you don't know the reason he was off, it could've been the defense why he was off.

Since nobody pressured him on the two deep throws I'm referring to, I doubt it, kid.

I'm not sold now. One game does not change a season and one season does not prove greatness or success. I'm glad you are on board there Bucky, but then again, I remember you being on board with Marinelli and Richard.

Nothing against Brooks but I don't necessarily buy into any of the talking heads. Time is the ultimate judge and jury.
If Nolan had a history of great D then I think you could write it off as just 2020
Injuries, no camp, new system etc
The problem is he doesn’t have a history of great D

first off the Ref leant helping hand to that 4th QTR, you know it and we all saw it..the offense didnt score a point in the 4th and had an INT and other infractions , then add in Diggs injurys and there your answer to the 4th but having the lead for 56 mins against PB who was 7-0 and came in 14point faves in our house..

Id say it was a good showing ..

You have a low bar for "good showing".

The reality is the defense is mediocre, at best. It will likely get smoked by a good offense. Nolan will be a guy who probably, at best, builds a mediocre to average defense. And it will cost us most likely. Might even cost McCarthy his job at some point.

The fact that people are willing to believe in the defense after one game against an offense that has honestly not looked great all year is part of the reason that fans always end up disappointed. The Cowboys defense is not good. They are not well coached, they do not have good players, and they are just all around terrible. One decent game does not fix that.

I don't know how many people think the defense is good. I think most just saw that they played well against the Steelers, and think there may be reasons for that within the team, such as the return and implementation of certain players, and the dismissal of others, combined with the possibility that they're finally starting to understand the scheme. I don't necessarily believe in that last one, but I can't say it's not a possibility, however, the other reasons seem pretty plausible.

Got rid of dead weight, added some ok players, players adjust to coaching, coaching adjusts to players.

We're looking like an ordinary mediocre defense now. Not having totally blown coverages. Not getting run over.

Crawford now out, Lee ready to take more snaps. We can be better still.

If I remember, some fans/posters weren't sold after the Eagles game. Let's what they do against the Steelers they said, well?

I think we can throw Nolan's pink slip away.....lol

its been more then ONE game

they played pretty well 2nd half of the Washington game as well, eagle game was solid..so it slowly built from Historically bad to mediocre..

getting back few players has helped i mean still TOs by the offense has to stop because they would even be better,..
Sorry, ruffian, but "pretty well" doesn't cut it. Not in the NFL.

People that dont understand football calling for the heads of first year coaches after all the injuries, and 3 weeks of offseason with no preseason.

Bottom line is gregory has made a big difference at DE in the run and pass rush. LVE helped and getting some of the veterans in the secondary helped. And certainly getting back Lee has helped. But with Diggs gone, it gets real dicey in the secondary again. Crawford on Covid? Not a big loss but can the young DT's hold up?

Personally I am a little worried that the defense might help win us a few games here. Getting Martin and Looney back seemed to help as well. Im hoping that they play Dalton instead of Gilbert at QB. Dalton panics under pressure.
