Ethics in football went out the door around the time plastic helmets replaced leather helmets.

So, I say this: What's ethical about freezing a kicker? Or stashing healthy players on the injured unable to perform list?
Or coaches blowing smoke about their intended draftee and then choosing another?
What is ethical about fans making it impossible for the opposing QB to hear his cadence or a feigned injury to stop a clock? Or announcers breathlessly promoting an upcoming game between a 9-1 team against a 1-9 team?
Or deflated balls, stolen signals and sweetheart deals by municipalities to attract and keep NFL teams?

This proud rude boy from Leeds long ago gave up thinking there were ethics in professional NFL?

Me? I think of tanking as a strategic plan to make a football team better.

In the case of this team, there is nothing wrong with tanking. Giving playing time to some of these young players may not really be tanking, but it would definitely give the coaches some ideal of how good these players might be in the future while not ruining their draft position. There would be a huge scandal if any team just came out with open intentions of losing, but I think playing these inexperienced, young players would be beneficial in more ways than one.

Players and coaches don't tank. Only the GM can make it very hard for the aforementioned individuals to win. But they try to win every game.

Teams could just forfeit games. But they have a role in the league to play the game and deliver a quality product. Not just show up and throw games by intentional poor play or coaching.

Trading off development of players is fine, IMO. That's legitimate part of long term team development. But if they're on the field, they should be playing hard, and the coaches should give them plays with the best chance to win.

It's a continuum.

What Jimmy did with sitting all the vets he traded the Vikes for was arguably over the line. He threw the season by keeping better players on the bench not for development of the other younger players, to but convert the vets into draft picks.

Playing your part in an institution *faithfully* has to be more than just not violating the rules. You can never write enough rules to enforce the spirit of rules, and the spirit the joint venture of the institution.

We've got two bogan idiots running the draft so why tank. We could have picks #1-7 if it were possible and those two bogans would still find a way to stuff it up. Nothing will ever change> I'll never see another SB again. Might as well be spoiler for a couple of teams if we can --- oh I forgot, the main bogan idiot decided to take out the best QB Gilbert and put back in the Red Rooster. Never mind - what chance we had with Gilbert has now gone out the window. SO to answer your question - I no longer care.

Slowly, like drops of water, fans like you are turning away or not caring, not only because of silly Jerry choreographing symbolic neeling at midfield but for personnel moves and the draft. one of these days, those drops will turn into a shower, then a downpour.
I weep for the future.

Pardon the interruption but didn't Miami dump guys who had gotten them to 0-7? Then promptly went 5-4 with what they had left? I'm going to need some help to understand how that equates to tanking?
They traded away their best players for high draft picks. That is how you tank.

and got better won games down the stretch ended with 5th pick not first.. like us in some ways cut bait with players who weren't getting it done or they knew they didnt want to overpay but actually still went out an fought hard at the end of the season like ATL as well..no one quit they were thinking of 2020 but still game planned to WIN.. they went 2-0 beat the phreaking Pats last game, went 3-3 ast 6 they actually got BETTER every single game down the stretch for them was hard fought and close..so no they didnt TAMK for tua they lucked into Tua dropping to 5 due to injurys concerns..Heck Herbert fell to 6th so the DC should not worry about top 2 picks, seldom do the top 2 picks actually become franchise players..so take the nonsense out of here..!! If MIA was tankignwhy did they not play rosen, Fitz was the best option and he went out and made it happen..
Can you at least try to make this readable?

Honestly, the lengths you guys will go to to deny tanking is just weird.

A lot of players can't tank, they are trying to look competent to keep their jobs/get 2nd contracts. Some players that already got paid can afford to lollygag for a bit when they know their team isn't going anywhere to focus on staying healthy.

This team isn't tanking, it just lost a ton of key pieces so it is what the record shows. Ownership/GM/Coaching can facilitate a tank while still attempting to develop young players. A 4-12 year into a 13-3 like what happened in 2015-2016 is possible. Similar situation, Romo injured, team completely sucks without him. This year is way worse.

It establishes a losing culture. Once you ask someone to tank you cannot ask that same person to come back and play hard. Tanking will always end up undermining management.
Coaches have to be careful of losing the team if they are going to tank. They should play the younger, inexperienced players in the games which would limit the chances of winning, but it would maybe help getting these young players by getting experience and allowing the coaches to evaluate them.

If you think tanking for 2021 is wrong, then I don't want to be right. So then go ahead enjoying your 8-8 seasons and the upcoming 3-13 season.

Holla and brings me a dollah!
Or holla and just owe me a dollar!
If you have to ask this question. It’s not even worth discussing it. I could give you 20 reasons. The first one is the culture of the locker room the example it sets. Yeah let’s lose LMAO

It is the gm's job to do what's best for the team. Bill belichick was recently chastised for poor drafting. The same guy who hasn't had a losing season since 2020 and won 6 superbowls during that same span. And played in 5 others. It isn't tanking to rid the team of star players you don't have a chance of signing.
