Using Crawford $9-10M, who would you sign long-term?

I know Randy isn't a free agent until 2021 but we do have to make a decision on Smith. Ideally, we can get him to another one-year deal but that's 50/50 right now IMO. I guess the question is do you value him enough to give him Crawford money and risk losing Randy next year.

Randy Gregory
Aldon Smith

I don't think they are going to have the luxury to think like that. They are simply going to have a pool of available cap space and a roster of players under contract which they will need to add players to. They are simply going to have to make good decisions on how they spend their available cap space. I think they will continue to be frugal and rely on the extra picks they have this year as well as the improvement of this year's rookies. Last year's draft and this one coming up should lay the foundation of the future team. I doubt they will do what needs to be done which is draft Jaylon's and Zeke's replacements in the next draft but maybe someone will smarten up by then.

I don’t know maybe it’s me but since the early games Smith hasn’t necessarily wowed me to the point he’s a must sign. I’d like to see how Gregory finishes out

that Crawford money can go to a lot of things as there are many needs but resigning Dak is 1

Aldon Smith has been pretty average this season. I wouldn’t be in any rush to give him a big deal. I’d spend the money on a FA playmaker at DT or S.

What they can't do is break the bank on players (Gregory and Smith) who are risky investments and best utilized as situational players.

I agree but it likely comes down to how bad you wanna keep the player(s). Of course, we have more invested in Randy and he appears to have a higher ceiling but can he control his pot/weed habit?

Agree and just me but I honestly think Dak's contract is already baked in their budget.

Is it just me or Aldon seem a bit heavy. I know he bulked up to the 280 range thinking to play DE but we've used him a lot as a 3-4 LBer. I'm just seeing the explosion and I wonder if the weight, conditioning, or age?

You can't use Crawfords money because he's not under contract last year. The oppurtunity to move Crawfords money to someone else was of course ruined by the front office, they had the last 2 years to do so

Any new money will go to Prescott.
As I said on game day, this team will not turn it around until 3 generations of Jones die off after tanking the franchise value worse than the browns or bears.

Good chance most here will be dead before it turns around....by then football will probably be illegal

I wouldn't call Aldon a must have deal, but I see his number popping up in a lot more plays than most of our Dline.

Much could depend where we are in the draft. If they think they can get a player at any position the need. Then any player that is a FA at that same position IF they would be too big of a contract could be gone.
I know FA will start long before the draft, and they will try to fill voids no matter what , then draft BPA. But it could come into play.
Say if the y know they have that 8th pick, and pretty sure a blue chip DE will be there, then would they sign Smith. Even though I seen where Jerry wants to get a deal done.

The word around Dallas that I've been hearing on the radio is that Aldon likely doesn't want to be here. I've heard it numerous times. Besides the one game against Seattle where he amassed three sacks, he's been an average football player.

I'd take Chido back if the price is right on a stop gap deal, until I can get some other DBs developed and playing well. The problem there is that he more or less annoyed coaches this season while spending 9 weeks nursing a hammy. Chido likely won't be back either.

:hammer:

That money has already been wasted. They may as well have burned it

Right now, I'm not sure many, if any would cry about Aldon leaving. Just me, but I don't any player from the secondary back accept Diggs, Wilson and maybe Brown, that's it.
