Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. Notre Dame Hybrid Defender

Absolutely love this player. He's the new generation player that blurs the the line between LB and S. Listed between 6'1/6'2 and 215-220 and reportedly runs a 40 anywhere between 4.4 and low 4.5's. At Notre Dame you can see him doing everything from playing traditional in box LB, to blitzing off the edge, to man coverage in the slot. Where ever you see him play- pick your cliche- "plays like he's shot out of a cannon", "plays with his hair on fire", or pick your favorite...this kid has juice and brings an energy to the field.

So far through 22 games for ND he has 22 TFL, 7 sacks, 1 INT, 4 FF, and 1 TD to go along with 124 total tackles.

I see Owusu-Koramoah as a box SS that can cover TE's and RB's, QB spy, blitz, and be a force in the run game. I realize Jamal Adams is high praise, but I can see Owusu-Koramoah playing that type of role in the future.

I think top 10 pick will probably be too high, but in the event of a trade down past 10 Owusu-Koramoah would be very much at the top of my current list.

Fun college player but he’s awfully small to be playing LBr in the NFL.

I have a hard time seeing him getting off NFL blocks at the next level.

If you really look at the league today, many teams have a hybrid LB/S in their starting lineups. In fact, most defenses seem to start out in Nickel - so, that Hybrid player is basically a SS from years past. I think Roy Williams would’ve been better off playing in 2020 than early 2000’s.

I would advise this team to find as many close to blue chip players on defense as they can find. Then, find a fresh defensive mind to create a scheme where everyone can find a legit role.

He doesn't specifically play LB for ND. They move him around a bit. So you'll see him lined up sometimes as a slot defender, etc.

Whether we could utilize a hybrid guy like this, though, is the question. I don't have much faith in Nolan being able to use a defender like this. Which by the way is why I want him canned. I don't want him, his influence or his scheme helping to shape the draft board on defense for the 2021 draft.

You also wouldn't take Owusu-Koramoah before say 14-15 in this draft either IMO. So the only way I think we should consider him is if we trade down or he somehow slides to our early 2nd round pick.

I don’t think you’ve actually watched him play if you’re worried about him playing SS

If we win the East, I would draft him at 19. This guy is future of the NFL at weakside linebacker or third safety hybrid in the dime defense.

I liked Queen coming out, much more then I did Murray. He is more of a weakside linebacker, due to his lack of size and length. In my opinion, he needs to be protected to play more to his strengths. I know you can say that about an Linebacker, but these smaller players have trouble once they get engaged.

You'd have a point if any of them were good in the NFL. Isaiah Simmons is about as good of a LB/S prospect as you can have, and he's struggled to even get on the field, let alone make an impact.

If you're an LB/S hybrid in college, it means you're not athletic enough to cover the deep third in the NFL. That deficiency is hugely advantageous to offenses, so you have to play LB. If you don't have the size there...

True, but I don't think that's really what the issue has been for Queen.
